Mandatory Vests?

Postby Guest » 04/06/12 00:40:19

Rumor has it that vests may become mandatory soon. Troopers will have the option to either wear an external vest cover that resembles our class "B" blouse, or the traditional concealed armor. Anyone heard anything like this?

Not about the external option, but mandatory vests, yes.

The only FHP that wear a uniform here at GHQ are the CVE! I NEVER see 1,2 or 3 in the uniform.

Oh here we go again, FHP is trying to protect our people who in are in the line of fire every day and some non-hacker, whiner, baby crier or angry teenager has to throw mud at management.

If your primary job is to patrol and confront violators and offenders the majority of your work schedule, then it should be mandatory or no workman’s comp!

If you work in an office and doing admin work all day, then that’s a different story. But if you are in management and expect to confront violators, then wear the vest.
Many departments have mandatory vest policy for those that work patrol.
Either way, my vest is always on.

It sounds like management needs vests more than patrol. :snicker:

Vest will be mandatory when we buy them thru a federal grant. Departments that do have a mandatory wear policy cause that's part of the grant rules.

The vest should be left to the member to decide if they want to wear it or not.

And no you should not lose workers comp if you decide not to ware the vest.

We actually have troopers on the road that don't wear a vest?

Yet another glaring example of the difference between FHP and the rest of law enforcement. You work uniformed patrol, you wear a vest...You spend your day stopping soccor moms and working S-4's?...Maybe not so much.

You don’t wear a vest, not worker's comp if you get killed or injured from not wearing a vest, it’s very simple.

Please cite your source regarding other departments?

Orlando PD has a mandatory vest policy since Chief Paul Rooney became chief.
Has nothing to do with grant rules here.
Yes, this may apply if FHP gets the grant for vests.
What you may be saying may have some truth, but does not apply to all agencies that have mandatory vest requirement.

Check you facts and don’t make stuff up!
