How long is the process for highway patrol. I keep hearing 7 months to a year ? I was told if you know certain people it can be faster ?

It was 7 months for me from the time I took the first test to the time I was in the academy. Worst choice of my life. Don't waste your time on a job that you will only move on from.

wow, that is a long time! So are you with FHP now or have you moved on?

I have a friend that told me a recruiters sibling got in in like one month! Is there any way to speed things up if I am already certified ?

7 months is nothing! Some federal agencies can take over 2 years, with the average being around 16-19 months from time of application to academy date. When an application, written test, psych test, polygraph, medical test, background, physical test, and final decision are required it can be quite lengthy!

If you are already certified then try a city or county agency if that interests you. Better yet, if you do not have one already, get a degree and try a federal job. Working at FHP and making $34,000 a year is not worth it, trust me! You can be a manager at Publix and make $15,000 more a year than that!

Well if I was getting a Federal job with Federal benefits and being paid 40K+ and having to move around the United States I would expect more hassle. I was planning on working for the State issuing citations and working signal 4's for 33K. Lets not make this thing more than it is. I am ready to put some tan on and get to it but I'm thinking I will be working somewhere else by the time my paperwork is halfway done.

You could put yourself through the academy, land a job in the county of your choice and be a third of the way through your FTO in the time it would take the state to get your package through and start you in a class.

For 1811 feds the starting pay is more around 65K and 100K after 4 years. Yes, it is more of a hassle, but well worth it!
