I was on a Sheriff's Office SRT team for six years. We were well trained and well armed and conducted over a hundred successful high risk entries while I was there. The best way I would describe my team would be quiet professionals. Pride goes before a fall.
The US Marshals SWAT team considered themselves to be super elite before the religious cult shot the hell out of them. I imagine they are somewhat more grounded these days and a better team for it.

That was ATF. If you are indeed an operator and refer to a critical incident as "Shot the hell out of them" referring to the late agents on that team, you are pretty pathetic.

First, You are correct it was the ATF. Second, I have never used the term Operator with law enforcement. Last, there is no way to sugar coat it. The ATF teams over confidence did get the hell shot out of them. It was insane to charge a secured structure full of armed religious fanatics with a SWAT team. To down play it just leads to repeated disasters in the future. I hope your SOG team never has this type of horrible experience.

After the disaster at Waco with the Koresh Cult. One of the media TV stations interviewed an Army Ranger Col. and asked how he would have assaulted a similiar objective. The Ranger said, first he would call in an airstrike, then an artillery barrage and then his Rangers would assualt the building using armored vehicles for cover !
Now obviously the ATF could not have done that but the point made was that the SWAT team was way out of their league trying to assault a fortified building that had over a hundred well armed fanatics that had prepared for months in advance to fight to the death. The FBI follow up assault would have gone down in history as a far better handled operation were in not for an incendiary chemical agent catching the compound on fire. I feel sorry for the innocent children but I am glad no more Law Enforcement Officers died.
I think the FWC SOG is a fine group. Just stay grounded and learn from others mistakes. Good Officers died for these lessons to be learned.

It's funny that the poster glorifying SOG doesn't realize that SOG members are only glorified canaries. What is sad is that he probably doesn't even realize what canaries are used for.

Canaries and other birds were used during WW1 as early detection for a gas attack. If they are canaries then I feel sorry for them because some of them are great guys. Also they are members of the FWC on the same team. Some of them probably do have delusions of granduer because they like wearing all the cool gear (even though most of it is antiquated) and not to mention their costas. I think most of them do it for personal PR reasons and all the overtime they get.
