The same here. I have watched "my party" go after and attack middle class government workers across the country last and this year, and I can no longer support them or be a part of them. When I vote from now on, I don't know if it will be as a Democrat, Independent, or a supporter of the 5th district of the alien planet Zurg, but neither I nor anyone in my family will be voting Republican anymore.
I dont like any politician, but if you folks thought that Governemtn spending could keep on keepin on and never get out of control, your mistaken. When you have Counties and Cities paying their employees THOUSANDS above a State employee and some of them retiring at over $100,000.00, sooner or later someone has to pay up, guess its us. we will be the ones who suffer from the greed of those before us.Unfortunaely, we make pennies and will always make pennies while Counties and Cities continue to pay their people in wages that far exceed ours. I think the answer may be, make the Couties and Cities make their own retirement system and leave FRS to only State employees. I do believe out legislators and Governor don't quite understand just how much we make and how we are struggling to make ends meet. They do see the OT and Off duty, but what they fail to realize is, we have to work twice as much to make what they see as our "end" salary. It is dispicable and a traversy that we are being treated the way we are, but the public who supports these measures being proposed don't understand and theres no one in our corner helping them to understand. All they see is Government employees and how we must be overpaid. Personally, I'm considering opting out of FRS and working on my own future and my our retirement as leaving it to politicians is a mistake.
There is much truth in your statement but the very sad fact is the majority of Floridians don't care. There are 17,000,000 people in Florida. Stack that against 164,000 state workers and you can see what we are up against. The Tea-baggers and their toadies elected people to do their bidding - with no regard to damage done. The politicians want to pander to the masses. If you have less than 10 years - get out now. It won't get better and we still have a long way to go with this governor. Entry level management at most any national food chain, grocery store or home improvement center pays better than state law enforcement. The new state law enforvement motto should be:
Necessary But Not Important. We know it's not true, but unfortunately the public doesn't care.
