I am a 35 year police officer veteran. We have city, state and sheriffs officers in our famiies, including a long line of fire fighters and chiefs. I have worked from road patrol to staff positions. Recently a relative was driving to a state correctional facility to work his shift. He was in uniform and was speeding as he was late to work.. yes, no excuses, and he deserved an A$$ chewing, but not the ticket your deputy gave him. It is a sad state of affairs when we cant offer professional courtesy to one of our own. I have been doing ths job for 35 years and never ever wrote a fellow LEO or anyone remotely close. If I had to have a heart to heart with that person or his/her superviosr I would. I think what your deputy did stinks to the highest... and dont lecture me about what is righteous. I have placed my shares of "crooked cops" in jail. You have the discretion... use it. We all make mistakes.

Hold off before you go getting all pissed off at the entire agency for what one LEO did. The majority of our people know and use discretion and understand professional courtesy. With that said, I wasn't there nor were you so it could be one of the few we have that love to write everyone, including other LEOs, or your relative may have talked his/her way into a ticket. Without being there it's hard to say but I would at least talk to both parties before jumping on the bandwagon. If there is one available, just watch the video as it would easily show which scenario actually took place.

Not trying to make excuses for anyone, but no need to produce half a story and base everything off of it. With your experience I'm sure you are aware there is more than one side to a story.

I agree with you... this was only meant for the deputy . Still stands.. I do not write fellow LEO's , Firefighters, Paramedics, etc. Professional courtesy.. I am old school ! I also try not to intentionally disobey the law or take advantage of my position .

Ughhh.... Wow. That's why people make the generalizations they do. What a rookie thing to say. Like your 'S' dosen't stink or something.

Same thing about writing the wife/son/daughter of an LEO. They do not have a "gun and some arrest powers" as you so authoritatively put it, but it still is in the realm of professional courtesy-- to most of us anyway. But apparently not to you.

Are there some CI employees that drive like jackarses? Yep, sure. But there are plenty of HCSO Employees/Deputies themselves, their wives, etc, that love to keep their foot in it. Think about it and don't be so narrow in your focus.

From a long time LEO grow up we are all on the same team... The truth is the following:

Wake up recent events: Georgia Trooper Killed
First off I would like to thank every agency, (police and fire departments) that were there today for Chad's Funeral. It really was amazing to see everyone from Georgia come together and show our support for each other. Second I want to thank the Illinois State Police, Missouri State Highway patrol, Kentucky State Police, Arkansas State Police, Texas Department of Public Safety, Alabama Highway Patrol, Florida Highway Patrol and the North Carolina Highway Patrol especially for all that you did. If there where any other state/county/local agencies I didn't mention, I thank You for coming. Third It was amazing to see everyone on the side of the road, either placing there hand over there heart, saluting, waiving the flag or even just being there for Chad and his family. Fourth I thank you Chad for giving your life for the great state of Georgia, family and fellow brother and sister's who wear the uniform. Gregory Favors and your defense attorney Michael Mann I know in my heart there is a place to HELL for you both. I pray that everyone who wears the uniform are safe, healthy and have a great 2011. This person is blind to reality and certainly has a skewed sense of perception. Just ignore it like everyone else does....and has, for over a year now. Go back to sleep, courtesy.

Not to point out the obvious, but it is spelled discretion, not dicreation. The red squiggle line underneath the word means you spelled it wrong. Now, on to the actual topic of discussion. Just because there are one or two "young" guys that like to write anyone and everyone, doesn't mean we all do. We might write tickets to a bunch of people but most of us use discretion when dealing with LEO's and CO's. I guess it is hard for some to not come up with broad generalizations on an entire group of people due to a select few. Here's a broad generalization for you: The old generation are lazy, call sweeping, push the call off on your zone partner people who take their time getting to you as back up because they are afraid they might have to actually take the call. Now, I understand that does not explain the majority of those in the "old generation" category but according to your logic, it does because a select few are like that.

We all know who the ones are that write the LEO's and CO's so hold off on blaming us all.
