Please tell me that she canceled the training? She is lucky that she stopped a harmless rookie. The only criminal she saw that October 11, 2011 night was looking at herself in the rearview mirror. Moron!

Shame on you. You are behaving like DONNA WATTS "

I am starting to get tired of all the big mouth Deputies and City officers. What Watts did was wrong, but you big mouth tough guys would all be suspended pending the paper work to be fired if you acted the way you are all talking.

Lopez handled it pretty good.

About time wrote:1) Trooper Watts did the right thing!
2) MPD Lopez was SPEEDING!!!!!! MPD notice the operative word "speeding"!!!!!
3) Any private citizen going that fast would have been done the same.

I am tired of seeing police officers running red lights, speeding around town (yeah right, there always on a call)

I wonder if they are on a call when they are eating donuts and ording pizza?

Back to the speeding...they DO IT ALL THE TIME..

They park anywhere and everywhere they feel like. All this without reprocutions! Its time you all get the same medicine you give!!!!!!!!!!

You do it too. You are a cop just like us. I don't care what you say or think. You are a cop too and you troopers do the same things we do. Stop pointing fingers.

So Fla LEO wrote:I am a South Florida Police officer. I watched the whole 50 minute video and heres what I took away from it:
Miami PD officer Lopez

-reckless driving. Going 120mph does create an undue danger to the public.

borderline fleeing and eluding. (I don't think that it's too out of the rhealm of possibility that it took Officer Lopez a few minutes to realize that he was being pulled over being that he is in a marked police car, but it did take a little too long.)

Trooper Watts-

Reckless driving /Violating FHP chase policy Causing undue danger to the public by apparently exceeding the speed of 120mph for several minutes, in order to catch a vehicle going at 120. (FHP policy is not to exceed 15mph over the posted speed during persuit.) and continuing a chase where the driver of the chased vehicle was easily identifiable at a later time making a high speed chase that endangered the public unecessary.

Agg assault of aLEO- By her own admission of (paraphrashed-) 'you guys speed through here every morning and we normally can't catch you. This time we did.' shows that she beleived with reasonable certainty that the driver of the vehicle to actually be a Miami PD officer and she pulled her gun on him anyhow. (this also may constitute a violation of Officer Lopez' civil rights as Trooper Watts admittedly singled him out for being a Miami PD officer.)

Battery LEO- after positive confermation that Officer Lopez was a LEO Trooper Watts handcuffed him. (She said more than once that he was not under arrest.) It is hard for me to justify that Officer Lopez was a threat in light of the fact that:
a) He's a police officer
b) He cooperated fully during the entire traffic stop.
c) even after back up arrived and she still kept him detained.
and because she hand cuffed him you can also add the forth charge of

Depriving a LEO of communication.

To me Trooper Watts did not display prudent and logical judgement throughout this entire incident and should be removed from the force. The proper course of action would have been to get the Miami PD car number and forward the incident to Miami PD internal affairs. There is no other way to handle this period. Officer Lopez should also receive discipline in the form of having his take home privelages revoked at the very least.

Don't forget unlawful detention. He was told he was not under arrest but he was not free to leave was he. Not only was he unlawfully detained but he was detained for an excessive amount of time. 4th Amendment rights protects everyone from unlawful search and seizure. Lopez, if you are reading this, sue the state and sue Watts. This will end the feud once and for all.

Oh Donna, Oh Donna, I knew a trooper and Donna was her name
Since she 10-50ed me I have never been the same
Cause I was late to my detail
Donna get off my tail
Oh Donna, Oh Donna
Oh Donna, Oh Donna
Take off these handcuffs and put your gun away
You don't have to do this, in your custody I'll stay
Well darlin' your jobs in the toilet
and the nation has seen your mullet
Oh Donna, Oh Donna
Oh Donna, Oh Donna

What are you implying? Comments like this is not acceptable. Since they didn't take off your post that threatens another officer then I feel okay with saying you are a piece of shit. It is too bad that we will never know you're identity, so that we could have a face to face chat.

If she pulled over a marked police vehicle and pulled her firearm on a uniformed officer I can only imagine how she treats civilians. Yes the City Officer was speeding, but correct me if I'm wrong. How could she get a true speed if she lost sight of the vehicle and I believe it lassted 5-7 mins. At 120 mph, she wouldn't have been able to catch him in such a short distance. She went 120 mph, to catch up to him. She was the only person about to explode during the TRAFFIC STOP. Her own words said it all. You guys are always speeding down this road. She wanted to stop and write a citation to an Officer. She knew we was an Officer not a criminal in a stolen police car. Criminals don't pull over, they bailout and run. Maybe she needs to watch a few episodes of COPS and less Larry The Cable Guy. She's nothing more than a PSA with a gun.

You must be pretty soft skinned to think that these are threats. Nothing is going to happen to her. I say let her come to the class. Let her face every one. Let her be ridiculed and scorned. Let her call The officers "y'all" . Let her face Lopez, the one who she nearly shot and called criminal (if she even knows what the word means). Play her dash cam video on a big screen and instruct class on how to perform a proper felony stop
and to obey orders. And when not to over react on a traffic stop.

Look at all the trouble this incident has caused. It has caused outrage in the police world all thanks to an over zealous woman with a vendetta against other cops. Now the public and the real criminals laugh. Are you happy now Donna? Was it really worth it?

Trooper Watts, Discretion is the Essence of law enforcement. You choose yours poorly.

I'm not so sure about that. My agency policy says that if somebody points a gun at me in a threatening manner I am authorized to use deadly force. It doesent say unless it is being done by a lunatic FHP Trooper. Although after this I wouldn't be surprised if an update was forthcoming.

Watts is a dumb ass, we can all agree on that.

But all you tough guys who say you would have drawn down and shot the trooper are a bunch of morons who are just as bad as Watts.

First off if you had drawn down on the stopping officer no matter the agency you would be charged with a crime and if you did shoot the officer you would be brought up on murder charges if the officer died and attempted murder charges if the officer survived. Then there is possibility that you would have been shot and killed or injured and the trooper would not have been charged with a crime for your shooting.

Officer Lopez handled his end very well. He did not overreact and his demeanor actually helped to defuse the emotional trooper.

I am thinking there a quite a few city and county officers who could use some remedial training and maybe even a visit with your departments shrink after reading some of your comments.

I guarantee that if I was to ever pull you over for any reason and you came out with a gun drawn you will be shot by me. I will neutralize the threat against me ASAP. So you really might want to rethink your piss poor decision to come out with your gun drawn or make a move to draw your gun. Trust me it will not end good for you and I will go home at the end of the day.

You are right I would not have shot her.....I would have sped off, requested emergency back up reference to an armed gunman in an FHP uniform, pulled over in a position where I had tactical advantage, waited for my back up to arrive, and then I would have arrested her for Aggravated Assault of a police officer. Sound about right?
