Agreed, rotate every 2 years. If you want each member of your department to be on board with the community policing model, CROs should rotate out. Other units also.

That includes SWAT too? Its a specialized unit. You need to think that through. Homicide? Better think that one through too.

SWAT is specialized, but comprises members of different units. They do not need to leave SWAT. I agree with homicide, but think other cid spots should rotate. I’m not the OP on that comment.

You need to rotate some of these guys out of SWAT too. It is a specialized unit and should also be subject to term/unit assignment to two years max. More patrol officers would love to have the training and I am sure there many that would could meet requirements and actually pass a psych exam unlike some of these guys currently assigned.

Include SWAT in term limits also!

If you're working in a 4,000 man department, you can probably find enough candidates that pass all the requirements of high risk units like SWAT and K9 every two years. The only problem is that you're always gonna have a unit that lacks experience, so it makes no sense and is a liability to the city.
As for detectives, it's another assignment that can take years to become extremely good at especially if you're in computer crimes, or homicide. Forcing a 2 year rotation in these units will GUARANTEE law suits, and shoddy investigations.

Spend 10 years here first and you'll realize how fast 2 years goes by before you go firing off idiotic ideas. You'll eventually get in that unit you want so bad. You sound like someone who only wants to pad your resume with as many specialized units as possible to move up in rank as fast as possible or you plan on applying somewhere else.

Well we woke up the elitist SWAT team member! So your suggestion is that basically "you got yours so f*ck everybody else"? You have SWAT team guys that cant wake up in time to make it to briefings! That is a liability! Every officer on the road is a GIU detective. As a matter a fact most patrol officers do more on a case than most GIU detectives ever will. You cant keep people in positions forever!
