Retirement
How about this to lower the 12.8% we pay for our retirement.
Combine the Police & Fire retirements.
The Fire gets a 2% Cola and keep their contribution at its current level or pay maybe 1-2% more.
The Police get a reduction in their 12.8% contribution to a lower level.
No clue if combining the retirements will actually lower our contribution, a actuarial study will have to be done to see what a merger offers.
We both win if it lowers our contribution.

Re: Retirement
QUIT WHINNING YOUR 12.8% IS NOTHING COMPAIRED TO THE 3.5 PER YEAR YOU WILL EARN IN YOUR RETIREMENT PLUS A COLA WHEN IT CLIMBS. THAT'S THE WAY IT WORKS LIVE WITH IT AND MOVE ON.....................

~12-13% is in line with the FRS which collects 3% from employees and 11% from employers to fund the pension. SPPD has a similar pension structure. There is no free lunch so if you want the pension contribution reduced the pension has to be reduced as well.

Just in case nobody noticed, the stock market is down big time and likely to go down even further. Don't be surprised if we have to pay more towards the pension to offset the stock market losses.

Don't expect any raises for a few years either because tax revenues will be lower too. Buckle up folks because it is going
to be a rough ride.

The good news is that you have a pension, the bad news is there are quite a few agencies around with a much sweeter deal and a lot more money. BUT you have a smaller department with a lower crime rate so its not that bad.
