FHP is the least paid in the state. You have a better shot getting paid more with a municipality than with FHP

Its better than working for the command discipline machine called the NYPD. Would you prefer to get a take home car, warm weather, and unlimited paid details were you just sit in the car and make money or stand on a foot post in December and get scratched by inspections, patrol supervisor, CO, etc

NY is one of the States with the highest taxes. I loved it there, but it's the main reason I moved south. "6 figures" in NY really doesn't get much more than making $40k in most of Florida as long as you stay out of the big cities.
Even though you'll most likely live comfortably (providing you live within your means), making $40k in lesser populated counties goes a long way.
I reccomend going to a city PD in Palm beach county and living just outside of the county, or as far away as the take home car policy allows.
Applying to FHP should be a last ditch effort of getting your foot in the door since they're the lowest paid, retirement is not good at all, you can be placed anywhere in the State, you can't retire after 20-25 years (like city pd's), and you'll most likely have to get a second job after retirement.
