Great but Gone MB Restaurants
Gibby's - 5th Street on the north side of the road between Alton and Meridian. Known for their Gibby Burger smothered in sautéed onions.
Piccolo's - 2 and Collins, west side. Giant Italian restaurant with a just as giant and extensive menu. Fed cops on afternoons. many FOP banquets. Scene of a safe job by off duty cops.
The Turf Pub - Just north of Biscayne and Ocean on the west side. Famous for BBQ baby back ribs.
The Famous - very large restaurant on the east side of 700 block of Washington. Extensive menu of Jewish foods. Giant portions, all cooked on premises as well as the baked deserts. Fed cops on afternoons.
Mitch's Steak Ranch - East side of Collins at about 75 street. Good old fashioned steakhouse. Grill in the front window and tableside ceaser salads.
The Embers - 22 street just west of Collins. Famous for their prime rib, twice baked potatoes and French onion soup.
Ollie's - 23 street between Dade and Collins on the north side of the street. World famous for the Ollie Burger with 23 secret spices. Sold rights for Ollie Burger to Lum's a giant restaurant chain.
The Royal Hungarian - Small eastern European / Jewish restaurant on Washington somewhere near 9th street. A bit fancy.
Luigi's - Mom and pop hole-in-the-wall italian restaurant on the SE corner of 5 and Wash.
Arnie & Ritchie's = Precurser to Roasters and Toasters. Started as Rayphil's (owned by Ray & Phil) across the street in the 400 block of 41 street. Moved to the north side around the early 60's. Added space for a butcher shop in 60's (?), then sold to the London family who had it until it became Roasters and Toasters.
Theador's - Amazing ice cream parlor just over the bridge in North Bay Village.
Wolfie's - Famous Jewish deli. 2 locations at 21 street and Lincoln on Collins
Felix Lo's - Great Chinese food in the Moulin Rouge hotel at 41 street and Pinetree.
Royal Castle (11 Street, 41 Street, 71 Street)
House of Who - Great Chinese food at the 700 Block of Washington on thr West side. Chinese woman owner was like a character out of a movie.
The Chicken Man - Not sure of the name, but this wasn't really a restaurant , but a store on the north side of Espanola Way where the most delicious chicken was cooked
The Irish House - A neighborhood bar in the 1500 block of Alton on the west side. Great burgers and smoked fish.
The Hoagie Hut - l
Local sandwich shop that started in the 600 block of West and then moved around the corner next the 7-11 on 6th street. Food was good and it was a popular place for cops to have breakfast or lunch
Neil's - On Alton on the east side just north of Lincoln. Good American breakfast, lunch, dinner place. Not unusual to find 10-20 cops eating there at once and to find a uniformed motorman wearing an apron working the grill.
Gatti's - Fancy and expensive Italian restaurant on West about 11 street. Only place on this list I never ate at.
Gil Cappa's Bistro - Mom and pop (literally) Italian restaurant on the east end of Normandy on the south side. Amazingly delicious home cooked food. Used to take checks from customers, but if the check bounced, it was posted in the bathrooms.
Can't remember the name - Italian on Normandy. Big fancy place near Gil Cappa's. Old and well established. Great food.
Can't remember the name - Deli in 1600 or 1700 block of Alton. Another old well established place with lots of cops as customers.
Can't remember the name - Chinese restaurant on 71 street a few blocks off Collins on the north side of the street.
If anyone can add details on these or can add to the list, please do.

I think the 71 st. Chinese place was fu Manchu. Was the 1600 blk of Alton the villa deli?

71st - Fu ManChu Chinese Rest
1600 blk Alton - Villa Deli (until the health dept closed them down)
I think the Italian Rest on 71st was Gino's or Pisano's. The chef sported a big
blonde boufont hair do.

Crack Chicken - East side of Washington Avenue - 1300 Block (Caters to a very diverse crowd, Cuabn Coffee to be had at same location, you can even do some grocery shopping, most importantly very Police friendly)
Sarcasm aside those people are awesome.

Tio's Market...Got to love that Chicken! 38's from the north are known to come down to try and enjoy some chicken strips...

Fu Manchu - Great Chinese food in the 2-300 block of 71 street
Gino's - East end of Normandy Isle on the south side of the street
The Villa - good old fashioned Jewish deli in the 1600 block of Alton on the west side.
Also adding:
Pumpernick's - NW corner of 67 and Collins. Breakfast/lunch/dinner deli/restaurant.
Can't remember the name - Wolfie's type of restaurant at 29 and Collins, SE corner, I think where the Denny's is now. Great kippered salmon.

29th & Collins was originally Sambo's that became Denny's. Sambo's was sold to Denny's.
