Not the only reason......some couldn't pass the tests to become a full time paid trooper so the state SETTLED & let them be & continue to be an A-man.

That's because we have an intense rigorous Academy which no other Academy in the State compares to. Only the best of the best of the cream of the crop graduates from our Academy.

    Carry on.

And yet the state lets them work for free as auxiliary. Not good enough to pass the tests to get paid, but good enough to work for free. And to top it all off, they DO IT for free.

Most of you wouldn't last a week at the New York State Police Academy and besides you wouldn't know what to do with all the money that the NYSP make.

As of April of 2008 the Aux go through the same exact testing process as a fulltime trooper. The physical doesn't include a ecg like a full-time troopers does. But the Aux must now take the pat, physiological, poly, drug, and background. Same standards to pass.

I will match FHP's academy against NYSP academy any time. Neither one is as tough as its made out to be. If you want to see some sharp, squared away troopers go to North Carolina's academy. They are probably the sharpest in the land.
