Just surfing by from “down south”. If your numbers are correct it’s no wonder you guys are short handed. With forty one Lts. and Sgts. in charge of 153 deputies that comes to an average of one supervisor for every 3.7 deputy. You are definitely top heavy and need to unload over half of your Lts. and replace them with real workers commonly known as deputies. The faster your new Sheriff abolished all the un-necessary rank the sooner you’ll have the manpower needed to get the job done properly.
Actually the amount of supervisors for patrol is about right if the shifts were at full strength. But when officers are pulled to create a new unit, or one of the good ole boys wants more troops to command to make him look important. or we need to fill a useless position, its not the supervisors who get pulled, its the working Deputy. So the supervisors remain fully staffed while there are less deputies pulling the load.

Patrol has always bore the brunt of misplaced Officers. Of course CID has suffered under the last two administrations also. It is obvious that the two busiest divisions in the SO are the last to get anything.

Talk about misuse of manpower, sending 3 Captains as liaison to 5 County Commissioners, now that is ridiculous. If you have so many excess Captains why promote more. Political Paybacks that why.

Abolish unnecessary rank? He's made more in 2 weeks time.

There's a few more LT's than 12. There's one on each shift for P3 and P4, there's 12. Then you have one for P2, P5, an P6 (no LT assigned to P1 currently). We're up to 15. Then there's a few just assigned to the patrol office.

Thats some of the worse case of manpower deployment that I've ever seen. With those other 3 Lt.s now the Sheriff has one supervisor for every 3.4 deputies. You guys must have supervisors sitting in your lap micromanaging every thing you do.

Yea, and that's just patrol. We have 289 sworn deputies which are below the rank of Sergeant. 153 of those are assigned to the road. The rest belong to civil, court security, investigations, etc. There's more Lieutenants in investigations as well. Way too many Sergeants. It's a mess.

Not so fast on the supervisors in investigations. Before the election, they had:

    1 captain
    4 lieutenants
    6 Sgts

    There is now:

    0 captain
    3 lieutenants
    6 sgts

(not counting narcotics, and that IS counting the addition of a sgt to gang intelligence)

Also note that the head of Intel went from a LT (rex) to a Sgt, and one LT came out of SRO and back to the road.

Id say that is an improvement. Probably right about where it should be.

With the Captain moved from Inv. who's in charge?

The recipient of this political payback position goes to Lt. Mike Amerson. He is now in charge of Investigations. Did anyone expect anything different?
