SCMPD has openings ALL the time, the consistantly run a full class every twelve weeks at Armstrong Atlantic University in Savannah of around 30 students, they have a loss rate at this academy of around 25 %

As a FL LEO you would only need the 200 hour transition portion of the academy but would more than likely have to sit through the entire thing which is 404 hours in length. There is also a two-four week training period before the academy and additional training afterward's before the FTO program begins.

Savannah has a very high turn over rate, the pay is not that great which is really noticeable when leaveing from South Florida.

Like Florida most agencies in Georgia are hiring, the pay is very low when compared to South Florida, also be aware you will be paying state income tax and personal property tax on all your vehicles every time you get license plates renewed, this is based on your vehicles worth, and can run upwards of a few hundred dollars a year depending on your car.

    Hope this helps,

Why is there such a turnover rate at the academy...I was told it was all classroom. What is the main morale problem once you get off FTO, and how is any OT availibility?
