24 arrested along Route 198 in Anne Arundel crackdown

Responding to neighborhood complaints, Anne Arundel County police said yesterday that 24 people were arrested last week for nonviolent offenses in the Route 198 corridor as part of a crime crackdown there.

Officers from the department's Western District midnight shift participated in the program, which ran from Wednesday through Saturday. County police spokeswoman Sara Schriver said officers chose to concentrate resources in the area after receiving complaints from residents.

On Wednesday three people were charged with possession of cocaine at the Ramada Inn in Laurel; one was charged with having a stolen license plate at the same hotel.

The next day, two were charged with possessing drug paraphernalia, and one was charged with having an open container of alcohol at the Motel 6 in Laurel; two were charged with having illegal drugs at the parking lot of a Dunkin Donuts in Laurel; and two were charged with trespassing in the Bacon Town Park on Whiskey Bottom Road.

On Saturday six were charged with possessing a sawed-off shotgun at a Motel 6 in Laurel; and one was charged with having 226 prescription pills that had not been prescribed to him.

Six others were arrested on outstanding warrants during the initiative, police said.

Did the perps possess six shotguns, or did someone charge six people with one shotgun. I worked Laurel (5A1) and cannot see popping six people with one weapon. That's a little nutz.
