How is the dispatch center there? Are you accepting applications? How are the supervisors?

    Dispatch

Money is not that good. More money can be earned dispatching at a larger agency, however the call volume is significantly lower and less stressful. Working conditions are all right. The dispatch supervisors are good people, but are hindered by the lack of money available to pay for good applicants.

Do you guys have any openings? I would like to go back to school so the environment would be ideal.

I think we just filled the last dispatch opening we had. We could use a few more dispatchers, but we don't have the funds to do that right now.

    missing the old dispatchers

Any department that can force a 15-year veteran dispatch to have no other choice but to quit because of a scheduling issue with her 2 children and daycare isn?t worth a damn. I mean, come on, we all know the quality of ½ of the current dispatcher. The officers on the street only get a fraction of the information they used to get before going to a call. And then to top that off the fraction is usually inaccurate. And so help anyone that tries to point out a dispatching error. Oh did I mention that its okay to arrange a schedule to take classes or go get your kids in the middle of the day if your special. Yeah, I miss the good old days too.

I think I know the dispatcher you are talking about, dont know about schedualling issues, but they were very efficient at the job. We have since experienced dispatchers that dont have good training, or if they do, get upset ior snippy f they have to break away from the things they are doing to respond to officers requests.
