FORT LAUDERDALE — At least two Fort Lauderdale cops are complaining they have been passed over for promotions in favor of minority colleagues based on race, sexual orientation and gender by the new police chief, who they claim has made public comments about a “minority-first agenda.”
Attorney Tonja Haddad Coleman represents the officers, who are white. She confirmed one complaint was formally filed Tuesday and another Wednesday with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, which investigates workplace discrimination.
City Manager Chris Lagerbloom wrote in a memo to the police department on Tuesday that he was freezing all promotions until further notice “to address concerns surrounding the recent police department promotions.” The promotions already made are not rescinded, but the ones made since August will be undergoing review, he wrote.
Lagerbloom did not respond to multiple emails about his memo.
Larry Scirotto, a former assistant chief from Pittsburgh, took over the Fort Lauderdale Police Department in August as chief.
But the spokeswoman would not comment about the allegations of why certain people were promoted, or the chief’s alleged “agenda,” or Tuesday’s memo by the city manager, instead referring questions to City Hall.
Fort Lauderdale City Hall spokesman Mike Jachles said that because the issue “involves potential complaints of discrimination by city employees” the city would not be commenting.
Haddad Coleman said: “In my opinion enough people have come forward to question the veracity of the promotional process and whether or not procedure was properly followed.”

In DOD, the promotion process is definitely not based on merit. There is a secret list that is only available to see by the top brass. There is no ranking system like DLE that is made available for everyone to see. Right now black Females are the majority when it comes to promotions.

Not in DOD. There is a secret list that is only available by the top brass. Good Deputies and Sergeants continuously get passed over because someone in Administration does not like them. Black Females have preference to get promoted in DOD. Why is DOD scared to make a fair and unbiased ranking system that is available for everyone to see?

It happens in every aspect of BSO. Communications is full of people in high ranking positions, who only got those positions because of color skin. Same on the road in the districts. It's all over BSO. If you're qualified and white, forget it. You're not getting $hit. You're black or gay, here's your promotion, for get that you aren't qualified to mop the floor.

Just look at every Admin pick by the sheriff. All minority, and all way below more qualified candidates. You are exactly right, forget about being more qualified for the position and people wonder why most of our supervisors are not leaders. Why put the hard work in to study, just get on the list and get promoted. We do have minorities that earn their position, and if I were them I'd be pissed off because the others make them look bad by getting handed everything. Oh and if you're a minority gay female that's a trifecta, you just won the lottery. Even if you're not competent. What's scary is we have a lot of new deputies at this agency and they are learning from incompetent stupervisors that did nothing on the road or they're afraid of their own shadow.

Again, to stop it someone needs to file a discrimination lawsuit against BSO. Perhaps the same lawyer who is representing the FT Laud. Officers. But, that would require balls. Something lacking in BSO employees. They talk Sh!t on here all day long, but stand down in real life, simply because they are puzzy’s. Another win for Tony!
