local news today NPPD says We made costly mistakes
NPPD is trying to do damage control on the Laundrie situation. According to NPPD they had cameras on the Launderie residence for some time and actually saw Brian leave in the mustang (his last know sighting) Then they saw the mustang
return a day later and thought brian was driving, but later found out it was his mom. Is this a crock or what !!!
First we have to ask, did they have a legal warrant to place the cameras surveilling the rear of the Launderie residence. Even though they state they had the property owners permission, they cannot lawfully place that camera without a judicial order. They can place one legally on a public street. If they noticed Brian leaving, why didn't they follow him, which would have been proper police procedure. It is conceivable he left the house drove to the reserve and killed himself, if (there is that word) they did there job they could have found a reason to stop him, thus stopping or at least postponing his demise. They did nothing. They, the NPPD admit it was a costly mistake, lets see 1.5 million taxpayers monies on the search and of course many unanswered questions because brian was not stopped and was allowed to go unchecked resulting in his death. NPPD screwed this up from day one, two chiefs refused to leave their all expense gala in Clearwater, even though they were informed of what was transpiring. They left there incompetent subordinates to handle this, they immediately named Brian as a person of interest and went national. When the two Chiefs finally made thee way back to NP, this was a full blown disaster and unfortunately got worse from there. Remember there was NO CRIME committed in NP by Brian, it was committed in Wyoming, why did the taxpayers of NP have to pay the freight. Why was it the parents found the bones and not the 200 officers being paid to do it. The body was covered by water, but yet the notebook is salvageable ? paper under water really. This stinks. The commission needs to ask FDLE to investigate this investigation, all the cards on the table, no spin, no lies, a true, non political, non compromised full investigation for the real truth Accountability needs to happen here.

The front yard is not and issue. The back is. The court when the laundries sue will ask did they have an expectation of privacy? Simple question. I don’t know the answer but that is how it has always been. You can’t peek over a privacy fence without a warrant. Basic academy stuff.

The fence issue is moot there was no sw was obtained. However there is a two point factor involved in determining if what you are doing is legal.
1 Do the property owners have a “reasonable” expectation of privacy 2 are the local people ready to accept the privacy as reasonable.
I don’t know anything about civil rights violations in this circumstance, but I do know you can get a search warrant on certain things by peeking over a fence but you are going to be raped in court for hours. Not worth it.
Also we had the van there with narcs and cameras and we still lost them. I am wearing a paper bag to work. From now on when people ask ..where do you work? Burger King. Just to avoid embarrassment. Are we ever going to not fukk something up?

in regards to the front yard, they can monitor the entire street, but if the camera was directed at launderie residence only, there is a privacy issue there. When KV left the commissioners had an excellent pool of applicants that the manager lear dismissed, instead he choose a relative as Chief and the political hack Captain was promoted. So here we are, the laughing stock of Florida once again,, the commissioners must demand an independent, non political, non biased investigation by the FDLE and not some hired hack who will give U want U pay for, one which does not spin or sugar coat this fiasco. The commissioners need to step up, the taxpayers are not going to accept anything but the truth !!!!!

A citizen has absolute right to privacy and illegal intrusion to their lives and property. The camera in the front is legal only if it is monitoring the entire street, if it was pointed directly at Launderie residence, it is illegal, unless NPPD or FBI has a court order. The camera in the rear is illegal, again unless they had a court order. Now, since at the time the cameras were placed there was no reported crime and in fact no crime was reported within the jurisdiction of NPPD it is very doubtful a court would issue an order to surveil the Launderies residence ,Not withstanding the family's involvement, this is a serious ethical and illegal move on the NPPD part if in fact cameras were placed without a court order. We call upon the commission to sanction an independent investigation into this matter to be conducted by the FDLE. An investigation free of political or departmental influence An investigation that is complete and non prejudicial but doesn't sugar coat the facts. An Independent investigations hired by the commission and sent to politically favorable attorneys are just you get what you want and paid for, this is not acceptable. This cannot be swept under the rug.
