The Real Game Being Played
This isn't about hiring or firing the chief no no no. This is a bigger game this is to get rid of the city manager. They have no power to hire or fire the chief. This is a bout power and control of lots of money. Remember the manager ran off street parking and they made money for the city and continue to so. Those three amigos want Into hat money and he won’t let them. So if they remove the manager and replace him with their candidate they will
control and get the money. The chief is just an acceptable Casualty of war and may or may not survive

And he was probably still doing a better job at leading this department even while out of town. Your department and your government is a joke.
As you can see by the commissioners meetings, the city is a cesspool of corruption. The only way to clean this place up is by leaving him here.

Before you can clean up the department and change things here. You have to address city hall. If not it's business as usual, they will kick the legs out from under any chief, that's thinks for themselves and remove people within the department city hall wants in place. City Hall wants and needs a yes man, in charge of all departments within the city, not just the police department. They talk a good game, on accountability, who holding them accountable, The public? They only care, when elections are getting near or they heard of a person, who might run against them, is gaining ground. Who the chief is doesn't matter, they are a puppet, a talking head. They think they are their own person and acting as the chief of a major department. They are not, everything he does is met with B.S. from city hall and the F&F. Who may lose their hold on the ranks.

Naive, "BitCoin," boy thought he was another Manny Diaz, bringing in John F. Timoney (RIP). Timoney had National "gravitas" but lost his "mojo" aggressively pursuing a prominent Federal position like Homeland Security Secretary. G. W. Bush was never going to appoint a liberal New York Democrat to such a prominent Federal post. Timoney's role during the GOP 2000 convention in Philadelphia and subsequent one during the November 2003 FTAA in Miami sealed his fate. Timoney then became an absentee landlord, galavanting around the Nation in an endless search for a ticket out of Miami. That came after Tomas Regalado's election, and it was adios Timoney. Acevedo is no John F. Timoney.
It is up to the manager and city attorney to sever Acevedo's contract and negotiate his exit package. Subsequently, the city manager should not engage in another fallacious "search," he must do his due diligence and select a replacement, whether from within or outside Miami PD. If from outside Miami PD, that person must bring not only job knowledge, experience, maturity but, most importantly, a historical affinity for Miami's diverse communities.
