Here’s Why You Should Ask for a 5% Raise Right Now

Forget the usual 3% raise. Unless we get a 5%-6% raise we are not keeping up with the inflation rate.

While I get the inflation issue...we need to be realistic given the climate. I'm pretty shocked that Car 1 is doing as much as he is with whats going around everywhere else. I'll settle for the 3% in a wold of people trying to defund police across the country.

That defund craze is why nobody wants to do this job. So agency’s have to pay more

If TPD, HCSO or SPPD give 6% raises then Car1 will have to match their raises because we are supposed to be leading the way. Otherwise it's all BS.

You'll get 5% and have to pay 3% more in medical and 3% more towards retirement. Yes, this is the math pear1 will use to sell it. Oh, one last thing deputies will now have to pay a surcharge for their take home PvP's to off set the charges of gas, your using driving to and from your shift. Then if you really pi$$ off the boss and put a burr up his azz. You will be REQUIRED to provide your own auto insurance to cover you from portal to portal. This is nothing new, he was waiting to see it done elsewhere.

Now, to the flamers, chill having a little fun.

This shell game would not be surprising given Gualtieri's previous deceptions. The COLA raise had better be at least 6% to cover the inflation rate and any other additional costs. How about a freeze on promotions and buying out some of the more senior administrative staff to save money? Then restructure and combine certain sections to streamline and improve fiscal efficiency.

A freeze on promotions sounds like a place to start but it may not happen. F&F need all they can get and do. Getting rid of the double dippers, would be the place to start. Combine unit, under less commands, would be good too but again F&F. Buying out some of the more senior staff, may save money. Yet we all know a few would come back within a year. 6% would be nice but there would be a trade off somewhere. Either in medical and/or retirement.

Let’s see. We can get rid of two assistant chief deputy positions ($170,000 each plus benefits) and a colonel ($155,000 plus benefits). That’s a good start. Start using PASS for screening of new hires and cut back in HR investigators and personnel. Threat Management is a joke, that’s over twenty positions and a useless Lieutenant. That would be probably $2,000,000 I’m savings. There are bloated units and sections all over the place. For an agency that investigates very few real murders the Homicide unit is ridiculously staffed. And ILP, or whatever the hell that is now, useless. Take the four or five million in savings and give real pay raises, that will draw experienced talent from other agencies. And it will retain people here. But no, we add more useless people to the marine unit for them to do little to nothing. They race to water rescues that they never make it to. Expensive boats and excessive personnel. They all drive fuel killing 4X4 super duty trucks to tow boats that stay at the marine facility. Land Management deputies get new side by sides to go out and protect Bambi. There is waste everywhere. If you look at what some of these units do, they do busy work to justify their existence. But rest assured the brass will promote any stupid thing these people do because it gets the sheriff re-elected. It’s all BS, but whatever.

Well said, you know what is going on and where the waste is.

Social Security recipients are getting a 5.9% COLA raise. Round it off to 6% to make up for inflation. That's the minimum of what we need. Especially when we do not make $155k a year.
