There has been a lot of job postings lately. What is the hiring process like, time frame of wanting to have positions filled, and a true assessment of how the job is.

Assessment: our chief isn’t a certified LEO and they tried to lay half of us off this year. This should be your last resort if anyone else can hire you. Our primary task is taking kids to quick marts and trying to buy Bud Light.

Don’t come here. Worst leadership ever. They wanted to cut sworn in half. Didn’t get there way so they drove half off with crazy schedules and ideas. Now there trying to hire everyone back; but why bother because the new schedule is coming shortly which will push everyone over the edge.

Above is the link to the governors proposed budget this year which called for HALF of us to be laid off. The plan died during session but know that the masterminds behind that plot are still the admins here. There are literally ZERO other agencies in Florida which tried to self abort this year, we are the only one. To say the future is uncertain here is an understatement and it’s your future so choose wisely. Wise just might be going somewhere that didn’t try to kill half of itself off this calendar year.

Not your traditional LEA. Regulatory with a specific focus. Great people and very specialized. High risk retirement and lots of benefits. If you are an OPERATOR you won’t like it here. Tired of uniform patrol and snot nosed millennials? This is your place. Face it. The culture today makes it very trendy to hate the police. The great thing about ABT is you get all the benefits while reducing the risk associated with traditional police work.

Zero consistency. The norm in one office could be the opposite in another. You could end up with an awesome LT who will work a case and pound some beers (partially consumed of course) with the agents or you could end up with a wack job that will be out to get you and fabricate things to write you up for.
If you really want to know figure out what office you’d want to work in first. Then ask that question

Translated: Tired of patrol but too much of a turd to promote at your current department, then ABT has a place for you. Always wanted to be an “investigator” but you’ve been identified as low performing with mediocre social skills where you already are, then ABT is your place. 39.5k plus CAD pay makes us lower paid than the jail staff in my county, but hey there’s no risk here so bring yourself and all your baggage to ABT. Rejects and damaged goods are all we hire now anyway. Knowing JW is a bonus and you may come in with rank.
