PBA needs to learn and adopt the thought that there is always a path to better. They just need to develop that fire in the belly to help them find the courage to fight for that path.

Bargaining Unit Members,
As we previously advised, the PBA and Miami-Dade County came to an agreement on new collective bargaining agreements (CBA) for the Rank & File and Supervisory units. Once that happens, there is always work in taking the agreements made at the negotiation table and reducing them to writing for the actual CBAs. I am happy to report that we have just about finished that process and have scheduled both informational sessions and a ratification vote.
The informational sessions will be at the PBA on October 13, 2021, from 7 - 10 a.m. and 1 - 4 p.m. In addition to those in-person sessions, you can always email or call with any questions you have. If you would like to email your questions, please direct the email to General Counsel Andrew Axelrad at andrew@dcpba.org.
The ratification vote will be held on October 20, 2021, from 7 am to 7 pm in three locations: the Northside Station's Community Room, the PBA, and the Park & Ride at the Turnpike and SW 152 Street. Please remember that Public Employees Relations Commission ("PERC") no longer allows absentee, early or proxy voting. Those are not our rules, but those of PERC.
Once we have completely finalized the text of the new CBAs, we will email them to you, and they will be available for review both at the informational sessions and at the voting locations, or if you just want to stop by the PBA. In the meantime, the highlights of the CBAs are:
3% increase to base pay retroactive to October 1, 2021.
2% bonus of annual base pay at the time of ratification be the Board of County Commissioners (likely at one of their November 2021 meetings).
3% increase to base pay effective October 1, 2022.
Effective April 1, 2022, hazard duty pay increases to $150 biweekly, Communications pay and non-sworn, non-communications supplement increases by 1%.
Effective April 1, 2023, hazard duty pay increases to $175 biweekly, Communications pay and non-sworn, non-communications supplement increases another 1%.
Ability to cash out 80 hours of compensatory leave once per year.
Addition of two new holidays; Juneteenth and a 3rd Floating Holiday.
Additional longevity bonus steps 31, 32, ... to 35 (3.1%, 3.2% ... to 3.5%).
Addition of two pay steps for those assigned to the Warrants Bureau.
Increase of FTO/CTO from one to two pay steps, along with those Supervisory CBA personnel assigned to the Miami Dade Public Safety Institute.
Health Insurance Premiums to remain the same as they are now for the life of the CBAs.
While the above is virtually everything substantive in the CBAs (there is always various clean-up language), as always we encourage everyone to review their actual draft CBA when it is available and not to rely solely on a summary.

I guess you’ll give yourself a double raise from our PBA dues even though the firefighters paved the way for this contract. You now make $180k so I guess you’ll give your self $360k that we will pay for

Folks, understand what is happening here. Steadman is fully aware that we have been making inroads with the troops signing interest cards to break away from the scandal ridden PBA. By pushing an inferior contract quickly two things happen: 1- it prevents us or any other group to call for a vote and 2- Steadman can continue to collect his unwarranted, unapproved high PBA salary and benefits.
They are not trying to get you the very best; hey are merely trying to protect their own pockets because if the county leaves the PBA crumbles like Broward PBA is about to do soon.

Important information for all to know
Inflation accelerated in September, with consumer prices increasing 5.4% from the year-ago period, slightly faster than their 5.3% increase the previous month, the government said on Wednesday. Core inflation — which strips out volatile food and energy costs — grew 4.0%, the same spike as in August.
"Grim stories"
Inflation is causing some hard choices for consumers.
Food is one of the No. 1 issues we are seeing. Once they pay their rent, electricity, and health insurance they don't have enough money to buy their groceries or their prescription drugs.
So, as the PBA rushes to have us sign a weak contract cast your vote knowing the facts. You will be behind CPI the moment this contract goes through. PBA needs to return to the table with data so we can at least keep up with the growing inflation

I voted no… not because of anything political within the PBA but because of what you said right there and I’ll add to it.
It’s 5.4% this year. Expect 2-5% next year. So a 7.4 to 10.4 increase over the course of the contract we are voting on today. By agreeing to 6% we are agreeing to a minimum 1.4% reduction in cost of living over the course of this contract. Dumb.

I am pleased to let you know that today’s ratification vote was a success, with both the Rank & File and Supervisory Units overwhelmingly ratifying the 2020-2023 collective bargaining agreements. We will work with the County to make sure that you will receive the 2% bonus and 3% retroactive pay as soon as possible, once the Board of County Commissioners ratifies the Agreements. We expect that to occur at one of their November meetings.
We know that no contract can meet everyone’s expectations, but we commit to you that we will continue to fight for the best benefits and working conditions possible, and the items we were unable to attain this negotiation cycle will certainly be high on the agenda when we are back at the table for the next negotiation in little more than 18 months from now.
In the meantime, do not hesitate to contact us with any questions you may have. As with the implementation of any new Agreement, we will stay on top of the County to make sure everything we negotiated is implemented accurately, as it was intended.
