    The Band is Breaking Up

Last year, the fine people of Hillsborough County lost a legendary deputy and servant to the community when P. S. moved on. A year later, D. L. is hitting the bricks. These guys were critical at keeping the peace in Seffner and other parts of D2, and previously the Box, and could be easily compared to McNaulty and Bunk of the Western District of Baltimore (Wire reference). The only remaining real cop in the ranks is Detective Wooden Keg, who will soon have a statue erected in his honor in the vestibule of SNAX for being the longest tenured Deputy in Nuccio. Godspeed and fair winds, or weather, or however the saying goes.

Funny how that works huh? Those two mastered this job. I mean mastered it. Something that can take 5-10 years to do. And for what? Nobody cares. To the brass, senior officers leave, rookies take over with no experience. It’s all the same. In fact better if senior officers leave, cheaper labor. Just work them calls. Experienced officers like them two guys and rookies are all just warm bodies working calls. As long as we keep the hamster wheel turning on the street and as long as the victims, suspects, witnesses, and cops keep playing the game, the budget money for the big wigs keeps rolling in. Thats all that matters. Mastery, knowledge, skill, efficiency, arresting bad people, helping good people, verbal judo, finding missing children, helping the mentally ill by being free untrained therapists, by being untrained marriage counselor ……. MEANS NOTHING.

For prospective applicants and young cops, don’t by into the academy programing. There nothing noble about this job. It’s a game. It’s a money maker. No true global solutions are ever implemented in order to keep the game going. At the expense of our lives, safety, and mental health. Not to mention being used as scapegoats. The constant negativity, liability, and negative stimulus is not worth the money.

Stay in school and get a real degree, license, title or whatever it takes to actually be a valued worker. Those jobs do exist.

You will know when you have obtained a real career when you see some of these benefits…

There is a sign on bonus.
If you quit due to poor management, poor staffing, and poor logistics, you still have your title. Employees or not, your title is yours.
You have jobs lined up and can have another job the next day.
Other companies try to poach and push for you to work for them.
When you look back and are able to see your accomplishments.
Actual obtainable meaningful Progress, advancement, and accomplishments.
    Positive feedback.
    Rewards.
    Positive reinforcement.

At a minimum, find a job where your duties and expectations are clear. Right is right and wrong is wrong. Here, everything is wrong. You just have to hope the flavor of the month lines up with your actions and you are the least wrong on what ever decisions you made that day. You are communicated with only to advise you when you did something wrong. Negative feedback and negative reinforcement only here. How about the constant heightened state of not know if, when, and how I may get killed or injured? ****ing scam.

Here, you risk your life, your safety, your mental health to end up like those to mentioned by the OP. Forgotten nobody’s. No legacy. In fact, it seems like, being pro cop or giving cops accolades is anti American now.

Stop being the governments liability meat shields. Stop being a throw down sacrificial lamb. Before you are buried in a mortgage, car payments, kids, and so on. Invest a few more years in your education and certifications and become a truly respected worker at a real career.

No career is perfect, but ANYTHING is better than policing during these times. Anything. Besides bureaucracy plus getting killed or put in prison for doing your job? Or bureaucracy alone in the private sector.

Not here. Not this career. Not this agency.

Stay safe and stay out of prison.

To the rant and raver, You know your option, right? If you are as unhappy as you sound and you don’t change careers, or at least agencies, you’re gonna blow a nut. You remain at the wheel of your own misery and have the ability to change your unhappiness. As cartoon Joe says, Wussy!
