We have always maintained that demotion was the right recourse; for both. As exempt, appointed employees, they serve at the pleasure of the police chief and ultimately the city manager. Noriega should demote them both to the last civil service ranks. As such, the Papiers cannot appeal and must accept that decision. What remains of their self-damage careers will be at their civil service ranks. Both may end up resigning rather than return to work at their civil service ranks.

Who’s “WE” many here have been terminated for being untruthful and also leaving the scene of an accident or damaging a car and not reported it. Being command staff and making the same poor decision reflects on them and the department. So termination is the only
Answer in their case. If the penalty is good enough for us peons staff should abide by the same rules. Let them go collect and unemployment benefits.

I agree with what your saying but it won't go as it should. A reduction in rank and pay for the damages. Ms. Papier will get the boot before Ron does, if it goes that far. What's a lot of B.S. the department, has fired others for lying and other violations of the many repeated rules we go by: Department orders, service rules, general orders. So Chief and city hall the msg. you have sent, is rules only apply to certain people here and others, not so much. When the next officer get accused of lying, your going to fire that person(s)? You've given some a out! One, that a jury will see. Staff must be held to a higher standard, then your officers.
