Return the jail to 8 hour shifts

The 12 hour shifts are a dismal failure. They were supposed to fix the staffing shortage, overtime cost and save money but instead it caused increased sick time use, mandatory overtime (which is in effect again) and disruption of family life, school, pets, etc.

From an operational viewpoint overtime is limited to 4 hours after a 12 hour shift which is not particularly helpful. With 8 hour shifts overtime after one shift can also fully cover the next 8 hour shift. Also someone is more likely to work an 8 hour overtime shift on their day off than a 12 hour shift.

The jail has been on mandatory overtime several times and is doing it again due to lack of staffing and excessive sick time use. A return to 8 hour shifts would reduce the sick time and give better overtime staffing coverage. It would also benefit retention and recruiting. It's time to dump the 12 hour shifts because they do not work and switch back to 8 hour shifts.

LOL, never gonna happen, 8hrs is only for command staff, because you know, too stressful for them anything past 8

Your current colonel could care less. He has never worked 12’s. In fact he has never really worked at all. He was a snake at TSPD and is a spineless company man at PCSO. If Bob ever stopped quickly his nose would break.

    TSPD definitely didn’t like him.

We hire the pathetic losers from other agencies, becoming the toilet bowl of county law enforcement.

Here's a better idea boot licker - put the command staff on 12 hour shifts pounding the jail floors for a few months and make them work mandatory overtime. Let's see how they like it. Then let the jail staff vote on the length of shift they prefer. A return back to 8 hour shifts would win easily.

What is amazing is that the jail got stuck with this clown in charge when there are plenty of people who worked their whole careers at the jail and know it inside and out. Bob should be asking them for advice on how to fix the jail.

I'll let you in on a secret. All of these "command staff" clowns have had their family donate big bucks to the political campaigns. Doesn't matter who the sheriff is, its the way it always has been, and the logic that they would listen to someone who actually works on the floors? Well, that will never happen

They are stupid because taking the advice of someone with practical experience would make their jobs easier as well. Now they have to figure out how to stop the staff exodus and try to attract more recruits. Meanwhile Car1 will be asking why the OT budget is being drained at such a rapid pace. But that's what you get when you promote based on political loyalty and campaign donations rather than on experience, leadership ability and merit.
