We believe not! Unfortunately, Director Ramirez must operate within Cava's liberal; soft on crime, political margins, lest he loses his position. Come 2024, Miami Dade voters will have the opportunity to elect the first Dade County Florida, Constitutional Sheriff since 1967. Incidentally, we typed DADE COUNTY, because that is our County's name, and have been so since January 18, 1836. In honor of Army Major Francis Langhorne Dade killed in action during the Second Seminole War. In 1997, Mayor Penelas campaigned for adding Miami to the County's name and in that year, historically ignorant voters voted to adopt the current name, ostensibly, Penelas contended, for more worldwide recognition.

We hope whoever Dade County voters elect Sheriff, that he or she will take a page from Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd’s playbook, in taking a politically courageous stand for his or her constituents' safety. Considering Dade County is a predominately liberal-democrat county and by extension soft on crime, we are cautiously optimistic. Then again, hope's spring's eternal.
