This is nothing new, all police departments in Florida, take care of the F&F plan. Some are worst then other. Politicians, should stay out of the day to day operations of the department. They should only get involved for funding and when looking for a new director. Yet, some can't. They need loyal followers, to report back to them and many are glad to do so, if they can get something out of it. Any government job, you have friendships that shouldn't get involved in assignments and promotions but they do.

In terms of actual traditional corruption, like bribes, stolen cash, false evidence, payoffs, etc., no, absolutely not. I’ve not seen a culture of police corruption here. That doesn’t mean that it doesn’t happen. Every now and then there’s a scandal, but I don’t think it’s systemic. Now as far as political payback, favors, favoritism, nepotism?
Oh yes, absolutely, and the examples are plenty. Is that a form of corruption? Depends. Like, when a person is handed the answers to interview questions because the interview is just for appearances? Or when someone is “hush-hush” given overtime jobs not known to others? Or when a group of officers are given the answers to the sergeants exam so they can get promoted? Those spots come with money in the form of raises and overtime, so yeah, that’s corrupt.
