I don't think it is reasonable to say we had our chance and screwed it up. That was over 20 years ago. There has to be something that can be done. I'm pretty sure SS and DG ran for PBA office and improving retiree health care was part of their spiel....... it is in their own best interest to improve on what we have. The costs are rediculous. Surely, if the Fire Union has the proper road map to find a cost efficient health care model, we can inquire if their route could work for us as well. Prove me wrong.

I’m recently retired MDPD. The county health insurance is very good, but it is very expensive. I’m paying about $1,800 monthly for health/dental for my wife and me. But unless you can get better insurance from your spouses employer, there is no choice but to pay the county. If you opt out of taking retired county insurance, you can never get back in. This should be an issue that is addressed by the PBA because it is becoming ridiculous. Remember, all of you will be in this situation eventually. Fix it now before you get to retirement age and have an aneurysm when you see you health insurance bill.

Well said. But the first step is to try. If the PBA doesn’t even try we will never get ahead. In fact the same philosophy applies to wages and benefits. At least try.
And, don’t run with your tails between your legs when they say no the first time. Try, try, try again. Hell, what else does the PBA have to do anyway?

100 percent agree
The question is how do we, as members, insist they try to fix these rediculous health care costs for retirees?
I'm not holding out any hopes on wages and benefits as the County got hit hard due to loss of revenue associated with Covid/Tourism. The County was talking about firing people not too long ago.

Can someone bring this up at the next PBA meeting?
We need to get this done.

Because republicans don’t want universal health care. It’s socialistic.

Why on earth would you be paying dues while retired?
