Sadly that is the culture embraced for a long time. Deter crime, violent crime in particular, with necessities and platitudes. It does not work. The liberal mantra of focusing on firearms, the inanimate objects is a failure, and the evidence of such is witnessed almost every day in Dade County's urban communities.

Mayor Cava, you wish to decrease firearm-related, violent crimes in Dade’s urban communities, then as Dade’s de facto Sheriff, embrace Hot Spot Policing and Stop and Frisk, as codified in Terry v. Ohio (1968) and Florida Statute, Section 901.151, The Florida Stop and Frisk Law. Vigorous proactive Law Enforcement, by MDPD and its Federal partners; that is FBI and ATF, buttressed by strong State and Federal prosecutions, whichever prosecutorial venue can obtain the most severe sentencing, is the only way to stem the torrent of blood in Dade County’s urban communities; alas too often innocent blood.

Each MDPD District has a Crime Analysis Unit (CAU) operating within. Regarding firearm-related violent crimes; CAU must be able to provide timely pattern+ and trend data pertaining to location, time of the day, day of the week. Armed with such timely information, District Platoon Commanders (Lieutenants) can formulate proactive deployment assignments at identified District Hot Spots. The strategy is simple when not on a self-initiated preliminary investigation or one generated by a call for service, District patrol officers will be on signal 13, engaged in preventive patrol for no more than 15 minutes; more is counterproductive. What will officers do while on Hot Spot preventive patrol? Observe the human dynamics unfolding before their eyes. Behavior that based on the officer’s experience and training raises an alarm that a crime was committed, is being committed, or is about to be committed, the officer should initiate an investigative stop pursuant to the authority granted officers under FSS 901.151. No need to create yet another “specialized unit,” a generalist’s approach engaging properly led district patrol officers can do the job. Director Ramirez needs to reassess his vision, and boldly assume a generalist mission, devolving many of the officers now engaged in nebulously directed missions back to patrol. As it now stands, MDPD has too many “specialized” units. Patrol is where historically the “good guys” first engage “evildoers.” Consequently, patrol officers must be mentally ready to do so, whether that is pursuing suspects or subjects on foot, applying the level of physical force necessary to make the arrests, or when a vehicle is involved, lead patrol officer must clearly articulate a reasonable ground to believe the fleeing driver is involved, was involved in a violent felony. (City of Pinellas Park v. Brown 1992)

Policing is a dangerous contact calling, often, whether the injured or killed are police officers or suspects, someone is bound to get injured, killed; it is the nature of the vocation.

And the killings continue! Investigators said there was evidence of at least 80 shots having been fired at the scene. At least 80 shots? That's just brazen and evinces total disregard for human lives. Mayor Cava, so far it seems, that under your administration, MDPD has lost control of Dade's urban communities.

Crazy how these guns are growing legs and ONLY killing black people... sounds stupid right? Stop calling it gun violence and call it what it really is. Black people problem. Misdemeanor murder. 09 1 report. Y’all wanted this, y’all got it. I won’t risk a single thing of myself for the BLM cause

Thanks for your input City of Miami Police officer. I hope it didn't take you too long in putting those words together. We're in trouble if you're law enforcement's future.

Buddy, please stay off here if you are unable to complete a sentence. what is "big of trouble?" and "were in?" Just stop before you hurt yourself. Please go back to 09-1 report.

Yes, let us stop calling the deadly bloodletting in Dade County's Black Urban Communities (BUC) "gun violence," It Is Not! What it is, is Black on Black Violence, like it has always been and will continue until the race extinguishes itself. When police are lucky enough to arrest a murdering black-on-black killer, then it is a two for one deal, and the BUC, in general, is better off for it. But don't count on the BUC to help, like the mafia of old "omerta," in BUC, denizens therein ascribe to the "snitches get stitches" doctrine. It reminds us of a poignant, ending line in one of our most favorite "Film Noir" movie, that is: "Forget it, Jake. It's Chinatown!" It means "you can't change things, it's the way things are and the way they will be, regardless of how much you tilt at windmills."
