IUPA: New Labor Relations Business Agent

    Hello to all,

Just wanted to introduce myself to this site. My name is Mark Nelson and I am a new Labor Relations Business Agent with IUPA. I am recently retired from Toledo PD in Ohio after 30 years. I did road patrol, school officer and lastly the investigations bureau. During my detective years I handled property crimes and sexual crimes, including child pornography. I was also heavily involved in our union and did the positions of steward, trustee, financial secretary and treasurer. I was able to assist in negotiations, disciplinary issues and other matters that became before the executive board.

TPD's union, Toledo Police Patrolmans Association(TPPA) is part of IUPA and the Legal Defense Fund(LDF). I can tell you over all the years I was with my dept and being involved in our union, I learned how valuable it was to have a national union behind you. One that was there to support you in any way you needed. We have lost 3 officers in the line of duty since 2007 and 2 of them in the past 7 months. IUPA stepped up immediately and sent monetary contributions to the families. But that is only one of the many things IUPA does to help.

I am here to not only help IUPA's Locals, but to organize new Locals. My main focus will be on the west coast of Florida, but I am willing to travel to other areas as well if needed. If you and your fellow officers don't like the group who is currently representing you or just want to see what else is out there, I would be more than happy to talk with you. No pressure, I just want the opportunity to give you the facts on what IUPA can do for you and your group. I truly believe IUPA is the best of the best out there to be the Voice of Law Enforcement, only because I have lived it. Now I am lucky enough to be a part of it and help out my fellow officers nationwide and not just like I did in my old union.

Feel free to contact me at markn@iupa.org or 941-487-2560 ext. 184. Thank you, stay safe and stay healthy.
    Mark

Much better than PBA. Sure we once had a great PBA but like everything else in life all good things come to an end. This new era of PBA leaders just don’t measure up. I’m definitely in for IUPA.

I would be more than willing to talk to you and your other officers and do a presentation on what IUPA can offer. It would be straight up and no smoke and mirrors. After the presentation, if you guys like what you see we can go further, but if you decide you like the PBA better, that's fine. My end goal is to make sure you guys are taken care of and protected. I feel IUPA can do that and more.

All I need is an opportunity to talk and to do that, I need someone from your department to call me so we can get a group of you together.

I say we listen to what this man has to say. There’s no harm in being open minded.
I can tell you that the PBA is definitely not the same as it once was. That’s a fact. And, maybe it’s just me but I remember how bad my house got damaged during the hurricane. I never ever saw Steadman once. Not once.
On the other hand the previous PBA folks were down here several times bringing supplies, help, and food. They cared enough. Steadman never once came.
I’m definitely ready to listen to what this new gentleman has to offer.

    Good morning,

I appreciate you having an open mind. Hopefully more of your department feels the same way. I am more than willing to come down and spend a few days doing presentations at different times so everyone on all shifts has a chance to see it. As I stated, it will be straight up facts of what IUPA offers. My own experiences with IUPA and my old department have been nothing but positive. I truly believe you guys will be more than happy with what we can do for you. All I need is someone to give me a call so we can set up some days and times for me to come down and do the presentations. You can contact me either by email,
    markn@iupa.org or 941-487-2560 ext 184.

    Stay safe,
    Mark

Mark is super professional and straightforward. Not the smoke and mirrors BS from Stahl at the PBA. I would t give it a second thought if the old PBA was still in place but this new PBA downright sucks the big one.

Much appreciated. I could easily come down the first week in May or the first half of the 2nd week in May. Otherwise I would be looking at June. Again there is no pressure from my end. All I want to do is present the information to you all and help you make the best informed decision for your group. As I stated before, I do believe IUPA is the best out there, not because I work here, but because I have experienced it with my old department. Get together, talk about it and have someone call me or email me so we set up some days/times to get together. We can meet at a hotel meeting room, or any other place you all feel comfortable in going to. Hope to talk to your group soon.

    Stay safe,
    Mark

Mark, my sister works at Miami Dade police department and they are also super disgusted with the PBA. They are looking to go elsewhere like IUPA. You may wish to start talking to them as well.
    Thank you for being honest.

I appreciate the information. If you could email me her contact information, I would be happy to reach out to her and work on getting a presentation set up for them.

    Thanks again

I echo the previous post. While I don’t have a relative in law Enforcement I do come in contact with officers from all over Miami Dade.
The common theme is that the PBA is not what it once was. It seems to lack passion, genuineness, and openness. You just don’t feel like you’re safe knowing that a warrior is ready to defend and protect you.
    I welcome to hear Mark.
