IUPA: New Labor Relations Business Agent

    Hello to all,

Just wanted to introduce myself to this site. My name is Mark Nelson and I am a new Labor Relations Business Agent with IUPA. I am recently retired from Toledo PD in Ohio after 30 years. I did road patrol, school officer and lastly the investigations bureau. During my detective years I handled property crimes and sexual crimes, including child pornography. I was also heavily involved in our union and did the positions of steward, trustee, financial secretary and treasurer. I was able to assist in negotiations, disciplinary issues and other matters that became before the executive board.

TPD's union, Toledo Police Patrolmans Association(TPPA) is part of IUPA and the Legal Defense Fund(LDF). I can tell you over all the years I was with my dept and being involved in our union, I learned how valuable it was to have a national union behind you. One that was there to support you in any way you needed. We have lost 3 officers in the line of duty since 2007 and 2 of them in the past 7 months. IUPA stepped up immediately and sent monetary contributions to the families. But that is only one of the many things IUPA does to help.

I am here to not only help IUPA's Locals, but to organize new Locals. My main focus will be on the west coast of Florida, but I am willing to travel to other areas as well if needed. If you and your fellow officers don't like the group who is currently representing you or just want to see what else is out there, I would be more than happy to talk with you. No pressure, I just want the opportunity to give you the facts on what IUPA can do for you and your group. I truly believe IUPA is the best of the best out there to be the Voice of Law Enforcement, only because I have lived it. Now I am lucky enough to be a part of it and help out my fellow officers nationwide and not just like I did in my old union.

Feel free to contact me at markn@iupa.org or 941-487-2560 ext. 184. Thank you, stay safe and stay healthy.
    Mark

Haha. Go away troll. Sooo we leave PBA and so goes away our contract and everything we have worked for. We have one of the best contracts and benefits in the state. The city would love you they would save lots and lots over a moron move like that.

Just read Toledo contract. Not bad but not nearly as good as ours. Our MPO makes 20k more than your Sgt’s. No thanks move on.

Hey Mark you do remember that we have officers at city hall. You were nice and chummy with pant suits Jane and Bennet. We already know they and Dugan threatened our president with getting rid of the PBA after the NFL letter. We now know how you fit in. For those that don’t know Dugan is going to war with PBA in fact he is again pulling the same crap as before making it more difficult for the board to meet etc.

He is acting at the behest of pant suits Jane. They are coming after the union and trying to get members to split and trying to get you to vote in another union. And several members are doing it. Now it’s time for unity time to start going on the attack against Jane and Dugan and call them out for what they are.

Change unions we start from scratch we lose everything.

I love the fake argument of we lose everything we have in the contract and start over. Nice try.

... EVERYTHING is on the table at the start of every contract negotiation.. the city and union just “TA” right out the gate on elements of the contract the sides agree shall remain unchanged. It is a buffoonish argument.

With that said... Despite some leadership changes at the PBA, the chief just finds nasty personal conflict with anyone who isn’t a sycophant. It is tiresome having such a petty and vindictive Castorite crew on 10. No need for some other union but damn we need a shake up from city hall to HQ. Morale is the worst I’ve ever seen.

    Well?

My cousin works in a small department outside of Boston. His wife was diagnosed with cancer two years ago. She is in remission after battling the cancer for two years at poop a cost of 1.2 million dollars. Will our healthcare trust cover our spouses is this happens to us. What if the healthcare trust got hit with four of of souses got cancer at the same time. Is there enough money in the trust fund to cover our loved ones in they come down with cancer or COVID-19?

That’s not necessarily true. PBA as union you can’t just remove prior negotiated benefits. If they can’t agree on stuff it stays in place then goes to impasse and other types of court protections that are in place. (LMRDA & NLRA) ( one example from last negations was the one year shift bid. They did everything they could to take it away but couldn’t because it was already in a previous negotiated PBA contract with the city. They conceited knowing that they legally could not win in court to take it away)

New union it’s literally a start at scratch we don’t have impasse and other legal rights to fight to keep our already negotiated benefits.
