IUPA: New Labor Relations Business Agent

    Hello to all,

Just wanted to introduce myself to this site. My name is Mark Nelson and I am a new Labor Relations Business Agent with IUPA. I am recently retired from Toledo PD in Ohio after 30 years. I did road patrol, school officer and lastly the investigations bureau. During my detective years I handled property crimes and sexual crimes, including child pornography. I was also heavily involved in our union and did the positions of steward, trustee, financial secretary and treasurer. I was able to assist in negotiations, disciplinary issues and other matters that became before the executive board.

TPD's union, Toledo Police Patrolmans Association(TPPA) is part of IUPA and the Legal Defense Fund(LDF). I can tell you over all the years I was with my dept and being involved in our union, I learned how valuable it was to have a national union behind you. One that was there to support you in any way you needed. We have lost 3 officers in the line of duty since 2007 and 2 of them in the past 7 months. IUPA stepped up immediately and sent monetary contributions to the families. But that is only one of the many things IUPA does to help.

I am here to not only help IUPA's Locals, but to organize new Locals. My main focus will be on the west coast of Florida, but I am willing to travel to other areas as well if needed. If you and your fellow officers don't like the group who is currently representing you or just want to see what else is out there, I would be more than happy to talk with you. No pressure, I just want the opportunity to give you the facts on what IUPA can do for you and your group. I truly believe IUPA is the best of the best out there to be the Voice of Law Enforcement, only because I have lived it. Now I am lucky enough to be a part of it and help out my fellow officers nationwide and not just like I did in my old union.

Feel free to contact me at markn@iupa.org or 941-487-2560 ext. 184. Thank you, stay safe and stay healthy.
    Mark

    Sir,

I am here and ready to listen and to help. All I need is someone to contact me and get a group of your people together so I can present the information. Now that will truly be an interesting way of doing it since you all are spread across the state. But I am willing to travel if we can get the ball rolling. It won't be an overnight change, but I believe one that would be the better for all of you.

I’m all for it. Legitimately anyone has bigger balls than PBA.

We had IUPA once. They accomplished nothing really. The step plan went away under their watch. The real problem is the legislature not the union.

Dude hate to tell you that first it was the PBA that lost the step pay plan and second it was IUPA that almost made FHP go bankrupt because they made them pay OT instead of offsetting. Next it was IUPA that pushed binding arbitration instead of the old perc. IUPA was also the ones who put the billboards up with the woman kneeling at a grave talking about how little we make. They were also going to put another one up until the state begged them not to because it was going to hurt tourism for what it would say. So you need to know what the truth is before you start popping off with lies.

Unions are a thing of the past. Doesn't matter which one. You give them money to fly their flag over their head and you don't get Schit in return. They take your money and give it to political parties for schit like open borders, Green New Deal, etc. You're wasting your money

I was there douche, we got nothing from iupa, no one gives a rats ass about perc unless you are in trouble all the time.
I'm long retired now and grateful for all the steps and colas we got while PBA was the union. I'm not saying pba doesn't suck but we got a lot more under their watch than anyone else.

Yea retarded is more like it. I guess your head was in the sand when Lawton Chiles was the gov. and the PBA was the union and Chiles took the step plan away. Heck the PBA then gave up a pay raise for mustaches. IUPA made the state follow the contract when the PBA would make back door deals and throw people under the bus. Oh and IUPA did not take over until 2000. I remember it oh so fondly when the PBA kill the dignity 2000 pay raise just because they lost the election 3 to 1. Oh and if you wanna say we'll IUPA did not get us a raise well ur right since IUPA was kicking the states teeth in they didn't want to give them anything and just waited until rookies who did not know the old PBA would vote them back in and it took 6 years to do that.
