FHP switched to 9 mm
Regardless of what you might hear or read, the motive for the switch was to save money. The 9 mm ammo is the cheapest of all centerfire pistol calibers and most mass produced. It uses less materials than .45 ACP and .40 S&W so that's where the cost savings comes from. Many other agencies have switched to the 9 mm as well for the same reasons.
Only a matter of time until the bean counters here figure out the numbers and urge the sheriff to make the switch in order to save money. It is actually quite surprising the administration has not switched already.

Decision based on FBI penetration testing. The 9mm provided reduced recoil, increased capacity, overall penetration and expansion benefits. The Glock Model 45 (9mm) is an exceptional firearm.

The Glock Model 45, for those unfamiliar, is a 9mm with a compact (Glock 19) slide and a full size (Glock 17) frame. Excellent handling and still concealable for most. I would not object to having one for duty.
Remember, everything you have issued came from the lowest bid.
