What can be done to salvage Miami Beach? Hypothetically, invoke FSS, Chapter 23 FLORIDA MUTUAL AID ACT, brining LEOs from FHP, Miami Dade, and Municipalities that will commit to assist, and then engage in a vigorous enforcement campaign. Enlist your City Attorney, MBPD’s own Legal Adviser to identify all Misdemeanor violations, felonies are easy, under which LEOs can arrest the miscreants. This will require coordination with the SAO, Clerk of the Court, Miami Dade Corrections Department and Dade Juvenile Detention Center.

Of course, this is all theoretical, as soon as urban grand poohbahs get informed, they will immediately claim that all this enforcement is racist. Instantly the elected and appointed classes will join hands with the boisterous urban grand poohbahs and denounce the police for such antagonistic tactics.

So what are Miami Beach police officers to do? Nothing! You are in a “lose–lose situation,” brought about by soft on crime politicians, past and present. Handle your calls for service, arrest no one, unless absolutely necessary to avoid a neglect of duty charge, back each other up and go home alive and uninjured at the end of your shifts. This is exactly what police officers in Chicago, New York and other soft on crime governed US cities are doing.
