    Cola

Will PBA and Florida ever correct the Cost of Living Adjustment? Many of us started years ago and now are approaching retirement only to see the COLA diminished for every year we stayed. The State of Florida should do right by its promises!!! People that came before us got 3%. The kids that are starting out after 2011 will get zero. That is ridiculous for people who have put their lives on the line for this State.

It will take an act by the FL legislature to restore the pension COLA which was terminated in 2010. Don't count on that happening. They did this for several reasons, the main one being that they want to make the traditional pension less attractive than the investment plan in order to steer new employees in that direction and reduce the number of pensioners the fund has to pay. Possibly reduce and phase out the pension entirely some day after all the pensioners die.

In all fairness the people hired after 2010 knew what the benefits were and accepted that deal - pensions with no COLA. All they can do is to make up for the lost pension COLA income with their personal savings. They'd better save at least 15% of their pay from day one on the job otherwise prepare for a long career with the DOC, or get a part time job during retirement. It's a choice everyone has to make.

The state doesn't pay too much so you can qualify for the $600 government stimulus check. How thoughtful of them.

When Biden takes over and the Democrats take control of the Senate they will give cops raises because they just love cops and prison guards. And we have a cheap Governor.
