12 hour shifts are just too long. When figuring in the before and after hours getting ready and to and from work it is over 14 hours.
How about four ten hours shifts in a row?
The start days can be rotated to make it fair to all. The remaining 4.5 hours per pay period is taken up in transit and prep.

Also the 10 hour shift allows senior people to get weekends off. The newbies can work their way to weekends when they have some seniority. Night, weekend, and language differential, too.
