At this rate they’ll promote like ten in two years.

With no changes at this pace, we can predict 60~ more spots to open for this test group.

Quickly boys and girls. Study hard and get that first promotion to sergeant. Politic a little, get in with the right group and get the answers to the lieutenant’s test. Play your cards right for two years and if the getting is good some high ranked individual will grow a liking of you and for a price he will feed you what you need to know to get to captain. From there on is easy. The more of your soul you hand them, the higher you will rise. Who knows, one day you may even head this department, but wait you will still have to answer to the mayor and his lobbyists.
In the blink of an eye, 30 years have gone by and you have handed them your whole soul. The day after retirement no one will remember your name and you will realize they only laughed at your jokes to get something from you. By that time, liquor will ease your pain and you will spend your days reading blogs like these, Facebook, etc. to fill your day.
Ran now, get ready for that test. Get on that carousel. It will be a bumpy ride and at the end you will wonder, was it worth it sacrificing family, friends and underlings you know you hurt? It was all a bad dream.

    An old retired ex-Major.
