In civil court, the bailiffs are basically ushers, matre'd's and paper pushers. Each judge basically sets the job description. Some bailiffs sit on their a$$es and check people in, while others do a lot of paper work, working almost as the clerk's assistant. SOrt of like in PBC, some court deputies do paperwork as well, while some just look pretty in green. Not sure a lot of DLE deputies will want to put up with that crap. Judges will probably demand their bailiffs back. We will see.

Actually 99% of the Judges and the rest of the courtroom staff would prefer a sworn detention deputy working in the courtrooms instead of a 85 year old that shuffles along and sleeps in the courtroom. And let me know how many detention deputies don't want to work in a courtroom making great money, 2 hour lunches and great overtime and still get high risk pension. Every single detention deputies would love to get in on this. Your dreaming if you think they wouldn't. The bailiffs mean very little to the judges. Soon they will be gone. How much longer can the sheriff justify paying them while courthouse is closed. Not feasible and not good management.

Hahaha, the detention deputies will never be able to take over the bailiffs jobs. They need to know how to read and write and speak English instead of ghetto talk. Never gonna happen.

Trust me everyone knows that the first of the year the bailiffs jobs will be gone. The sheriff will keep the part time bailiffs to work along with the detention deputies in the courtrooms. The part time bailiffs will be the only bailiffs working, no benefits to pay and no over time. The full time bailiffs with seniority will be offered transfers and others will be laid off. This is all due to the extended period of time that the courthouse has been closed due to the rising cases of Coronavirus cases in Florida. It is no longer good management practice to continue to pay the bailiffs AND not having them work since March. The bailiffs are now considered non essential employees.
