If you are working complaints that allow torn jeans and a worn out T shirt, then switch to doing inspections, you need to change your wardrobe to fit doing inspections. In simpler terms, your "meet the public" clothes. The theory that you can wear hood rat attire because you plan on driving past one of your complaints is flawed and will result in all of us wearing slacks and dress shirts or worse, uniforms. If that is your definition of an inspection, it doesn't matter what you wear. You will be unemployed soon.
If you want to stay and be considered a professional, you need to dress like one. Call it what you like but a command appearance commands a level of respect and seriousness not available to those dressed in the same clothes you wash the car in.
