Bob Gualtieri's flyer says crime is down nearly 50%
And he takes credit for this huge decline in crime. If this is true, shouldn't the jail population be down nearly 50% as well as the courthouse case load? Have we laid off any jailers, bailiffs or court deputies due to this big decrease in crime? Any jail divisions shut down because they don't have any inmates to house?

In order to answer these questions more information would be needed to determine the cause of the decline in crime. If the reduction in crime is due to more enforcement and stricter sentences being handed down by judges, the jail and prison populations would remain consistent or increase. The court cases would also remain high due to more arrests because you have more people going through the system. Also, jail divisions would not shut down because you’re housing the same number or more of inmates.
If the decline is due to programs and services to prevent criminals from reoffending then that’s a whole other story.
You’re assumption that lower crime equals a reduced jail population is incorrect. The contrary would be true.

If crime is down nearly 50% because Gualtieri happens to be sheriff, I am Michelle Obama.
