J & C, stands for judgement and conviction.

Example: If you are looking to prosecute a convicted felon for possession of a firearm, you will need a certified copy of the J & C pertaining to the felony or felonies in question. The SAO or federal prosecutors will not file charges without it.

A certified J & C is also proof beyond a reasonable doubt that a subject is a convicted felon.

A certified copy of the J & C must be obtained in the jurisdiction of the arrest.
