Im with you on outer vests, but there is zero need for rifle rated plates for anything other than entries and maybe some of the soecialised units that go looking for it.

I 100% support the outer vests. If he is going to cave into the mob on cameras, then give us something in return and let us look "scary" as you dinosaurs say. The big bad scary militarized cop with his big scary vest. Nothing to be afraid of. I'm on film 24/7.
Let’s patrol in armored plated Humvee’s. I’m sure we can get them cheap. This will also stop any pursuits because the hummers are dogs.

So, what :justification" will be floated for issuing tactical load beaing vests next?

Ballistic vests are heavy and hot. The greater level of protection they provide, the heavier and hotter they become. That is why most LEOs leave their issue bullet resistant vests in the trunk of their cars. External vests are no different. If issued, a few tacticool cowboys will wear them and the rest of the force will leave them in the trunks of their cars.

Definitely time for LBV; we carry more these days and well established science supports it. Now with cameras it’s just one more thing to carry.

No one is demanding that "tactical" vests be issued to patrol, similar to TSU or K9 wear. They are asking for a modified version of the current one issued by the agency. One where you can actually move gear from your belt to the vest to reduce pressure and weight from hips and lower back. Look at this article which was backed by a scientific study (https://www.police1.com/officer-safe...KXHhAdMdbM2qR/)

Also, yes, the job was completed without LBVs in the past but technology changes and updates for the better. If you truly believe that we shouldn't change with the time, go turn in you Glock and demand a revolver because semi-autos are too militaristic. Go give back your radio and LED flashlight because they definitely didn't have those exact models fifty years ago. Don't forget to give back your patrol vehicle with the laptop in it too.

Bob just spent $3 million on body cams to please the liberals and get elected so there is no petty cash in the kitty for vests or any other equipment.

Most LEOs leave their vest in the trunk? You're insane. Youre obviously not LEO and obviously dont work for the agency. You literally have ti sign a waiver if you refuse to wear a vest. Ive three Deputies in my career that didnt wear a vest, and they're retired now.

    Go away.

What agency did you work for and for how long? During my career, many LEOs didn't wear their vests. They ended up in the trunk because they were hot, made the LEO sweat and smell bad. In fact, of the first five deputies who responded to the Marjorie Stoneman Douglas HS shooting, three had to remove their vests from the trunk of their unit and the SRO wasn't wearing one at all. As for a waiver, well, I have seen thousands of waivers accepted because the LEO supposedly developed a "rash" from sweating in their hot, bullet resistant vests. And, the administration allowed it because they didn't care if vests were worn or not, as long as they did not have any liability for the LEO NOT wearing the vest. You know who is most likely to actually wear their issue vest? Rookies. But, as soon as they see the veterans going "commando", they follow suit.
