All reports should be taken taken online. ALL OF THEM.
Either patrol handles all the calls for service, or they write reports.
You can't have them do both. It's impossible.
They expect us to handle just about every call for service under the sun, which is REACTIVE.

They expect the prevention and deterrence of crime plus initiating cases and gathering intel, which is PROACTIVE.

They expect flawless never ending detailed reports plus all the BS that is due by the end of the shift, which is ADMINISTRATIVE.

They want us to follow up on all our cases to the bitter end and even do everything a detective would do unless we absolutely have no leads, which is INVESTIGATIVE. Most other agencies, patrol is patrol, and detectives do the detective work. Its Tony Rode a Pony reports for patrol and detectives take over. Not here.

Plus the homeless crisis, opiate crisis, mental health crisis, addiction crisis, and so on... all dumped on us to handle with absolutely no time, no back up, and no shift relief.

Can’t be done. Can’t do it all.

Their answer is operate at 300%, miss lunch, and go home late to compensate. Then do that for 30 years.

All while numerous SOP’s say it will all be done by the end of the shift and the calls for service SOP says we must take calls to the last second of the shift.

With less than half staffed squads.

With a mid shift that is maybe at 20% capacity.

With paranoid supervisors that defaults to 100% CYA instead of common sense.

Then thy expect us to love it and be proud to work here.

If you burn out, you are defective.

If you speak up, you are crazy.

If you quit, you could not hack it or did not have the heart.

If you mention quitting, you are a betrayer.

For burning out, they offer EAP, which every other job has and our is not tailored to police. Yoga and meditation. None of which can fix burnout once it happens. You must separate from the source of the burnout before you can even start to recover. That’s why so many are quitting.

All a recipe for a completely destroyed moral, hating this job, hating this agency, and quitting. Its almost as if that is the objective.

All of the above can be fixed.

    This job could be enjoyable.

Our leaders simply have to care about the front lines and take a special interest in making it better. Kind of like when they had a giant hard on for another department, a 5th district, and body cameras. When they want something done, they do it. Trust me on that. Why not apply that effort on making the front lines how they should be. Not better. How about make it right?

Funny how they filled every single brass, command, supervisor, and secretarial position when they created D5, yet they had to dismantle the entire mid shift county wide to staff D5 with deputies. Fifth set of brass and office jobs for them. Same amount of deputies for us.

Before you praise the agency for the new mid shift, all they did is what they are good at doing. Creating more and more and more supervisor positions. We have new mid shift supervisor positions and filled the mid shift by pulling from day shift and night shift. AKA, same old crap on the deputy level.

This agency will continue to crash and burn unless they start to care, get their heads out of their asses, focus on the front lines instead of political money making agendas, creating High paid positions in new departments for political friends and family members.

With these staffing levels, pick two. Maybe even just one.

These Aholes have absolutely no idea how to fix our problems or how to lead us. Maybe we should put these posts up on his teleprompter so he can get a clue.
