Very true information and something to think about. This agency is very heavy handed on disciple/IA's. It's a one for one here on discipline if you mess up and there are no warnings, unless they like you. You will get a reputation about you before you even make it to the streets in a uniform. This place runs on rumors' and the "Grape Vine" as you learned exists in your Criminal Justice class 101.
They will not even follow their own policies of progressive discipline as is outlined in the General Orders. They will go straight to a suspension or termination on someone that has a clean record and will not follow the progressive disciple policy as it is outlined and suggested in the General Orders of the department.
They can always hire new officers that are desperate to get their first LEO job, but be warned they will beat you down and possibly ruin your future career in Law Enforcement here. That is one of the reasons there is a high turn over rate and low morale at this department and they can't figure it out. if they would just get rid of a few Admin. here it might improve. A good start was getting rid of the Capt. over patrol. Good luck to you, but I would strongly suggest not applying here or you will go from a happy new officer looking forward to a good career and then realizing after you get hired here of the huge mistake you made and trying to figure out how to save your career and move on without having a black cloud over you and trying to move on. There is even a LT. here that will purposely try to ruin you and give you a bad background review to keep you here and ruin your future career.

Wow, what a great post. 'Work smarter not harder". It's the Admin. here that complicates the job and has to justify their Admin. positions that always try to make the job harder. It's really a great job to work. But the Admin. here always harass you and make the job worse than it is and cause bad morale and make the job difficult.
The pay raises here are little and few. But if you hit it at the right time, you will get a very nice pay upgrade as a new hire. The starting pay has to get a lot behind the starting pay of the surrounding agencies before action is taken and the basic salary goes up.

Let's also not forget that the University and this Departments leadership WILL IMMEADIATLY abandon you when the going gets rough.
WE ARE IN NO WAY "A FAMILY" AS THE CHIEF HAS STATED. A PARKING SERVICES TICKET WRITER, GARDENER OR CUSTODIAN IS TREATED WITH MORE RESPECT BY THIS CORRUPT UNIVERSITY AND ITS LEADERS THAN WE ARE.

This is a decent place to work and the pay is decent for the job you are required to do. There just needs to be some changes in command positions to make it happen.

ST Pete Campus will be taken over by the City of St. Petersburg Police. It's been in the planning Stages for quite sometime.
