    Beards I uniform

Can someone please explain why every male on MDPD is allowed to have a beard EXCEPT UNIFORM?

Why is MDPD behind other departments and the norms of society and many global cultures our community represents? We celebrate being multicultural, international, embracing this or that, but other departments with much much less diversity allow their males in uniform to have a beard.
    A beard is natural.

We allow females to dye their hair unnatural colors, put on a circus palette of nail colors and different nails on their hands are different colors and even fingernail to fingernail, fake and different colored hair extensions, more jewelry than a store display on their wrist and multiple earrings, pants so tight you can see the thong t-back, skirts and blouses so tight it 3 sizes to small, but no one say anyrhing.

Some get a beard memo from their doctor. Not a bad swap for a co-pay and getting a year of beard, but why? Just say it is your religion and everyone back off and approve and make sure they are accommodated. That is fine, but just let males have a beard.

It was a rule that had been in existence since the 1950s. *But, as is with all things, change happened. *I believe it was April of 1979, as he was heading out the door, sort of speak, E. Wilson Purdy lifted the no mustache rule. *We were all elated. FINALLY, even those who could not grow a decent one tried. *As with all fads, the trend waned. *So have patience, my impatient 'padawan' *beards may yet come to MDPD. *For now, know this, your toupe uniform shirt makes your beard look drabby, unsightly. In contrast, the dark forest green shirt most Florida deputy sheriffs wear enhances the appearance. Perhaps after the 2024 election, the newly elected Sheriff will allow uniformed deputies to sport beards. *

Frankly, I don't care whether you sport tattoos and or beards. *My concerns are how promptly, but safely, you respond to calls for service. *Once on the scene, how effectively you conduct your preliminary investigation and how thorough you are in discerning solvability factors that will lead to case closure by arrest. *But most importantly, how you treat the citizens with whom you come in contact. *Hell, even PUBLIX allows beards!

    Freddy, C'MON MAN, is 2020!

    It doesn’t look professional, period.

Your second paragraph about females is false too. Maybe your supervisors don’t have a pair of nuts to tell those females it’s not allowed.

No one days anything because of people like you that will cry racism when we tell you your hair, nails, skin tight clothes, and beards are unprofessional. Get the chip off your shoulder and take a deep breath.

Doesn’t look professional???? Buddy I got news for you. We got Officers with tattoos on their neck and hands, full sleeves on guys and gals. If the department allows that the beard is an understatement.... most south Florida police departments including BSO have beards. The world is changing.... Don’t fight the change in culture.

All you have to say is you are Muslim (religion) and the department cannot ask you anything more. End of story. You got your beard.

I can’t wait to see what you guys will complain about in 10 years when the “culture” changes again. A memo for a nose ring or how about body modifications. Gfto.
