To the original poster, the police function is a "department" of the City of Tampa ergo, it is led at a high level by the chief executive of the city (Mayor) and the City Council. The police chief is an appointed position and does not have the ultimate authority. Unlike a Sheriff (an elected official), the police chief serves at the leisure of the Mayor and Council (with some exception to contract language). Because this is an appointment, the Chief will do/say/think/react/direct as he/she is told by the folks YOU elected to actually run the City of Tampa Government. You might want to take a remedial civics course on how local government works because the people elected Jane Castor and each member of City Council. Ergo, they were voted by folks like you to manage the city's business including the Department of Police. Calling the Police Department "worthless" shows your ignorance. You need to direct your frustration and name calling to the folks actually charged with leading city government, your elected officials. The TPD, as a department of city government is simply being directed by the leadership of the City. And, you by a majority voted each of these folks into positions of authority. You are getting the level of service from your elected officials that they promised you would receive. The pitched their qualifications and dreams/envisions for the City's course of direction and they were voted in. So, don't blame the police or any other "department" for this inept administration that "We the People" voted into place.

The majority of officers have bachelors degrees with a large portion having masters. So you cant apply here with your high school diploma or GED. Guess your stuck at Burger King loser.
