    Open letter the the chief

    Chief,

We know you are new here and are still learning the ropes but so far you are going down in history as the worst chief in modern times of ABT. The fact that you were appointed when not qualified because your the secretary’s buddy should be coming in to play. This agency is being ruined. There was a time we did everything, were relevant, and we keep being told no no no just do surveys and then the director comes out with we are useless and don’t do anything. Stand up for us.

Covid is a nightmare. From the start tallahassee screwed those up big time. Then you pass on hundreds of complaints that have been hoarded for months and want them handled ASAP. Not only do you want them handled ASAP you change how you want them handled multiple times a day.

Then for months we’re told to not really look for anything, violations were responded to with don’t go back, or recheck it in a month. Then you decide you think we aren’t doing our jobs so now you want pictures of licenses and throw us in uniform.

Now the secretary wants to know why we haven’t applied for more suspensions. Well the order is very vague. If you have a food license and your at 50% capacity your good to go. Not many violations of that can be found and of course everyone including customers sees us from a mile away with our uniforms on and safe out, sit down, etc. You want violations, let us go in UC we’ll find violations .

Then you sit back and do nothing when the very people who wrote the order contradict it. Cigar bars - ok open use MJs email as verification. Quota with a food truck - ok open just show this email to the agents when they show up.

Again chief we know your an appointed friend who has very little leadership skills but your allowing your troops to be treated like crap. You have yet to visit my office and I hope you don’t because you will get zero respect and every agent will find a reason to avoid the office the day you visit. Stand up for us for once.

Captains? Might as well get rid of them. You don’t trust them and they aren’t allowed to make a decision. May as well just change the operating chart to go from Jerome to lietutenants. Get rid of captains and majors cause you so t trust them. Last night was ridiculous calling random districts assigning them to the chi rock places that were in compliance the first time because you don’t trust us. Well we don’t trust you.

The there’s the future. Every other agency is moving to a more efficient system of working remote, carrying hours to accomodate caseload and your doing the opposite. You want us to work shifts, permanent nights and permanent weekends. Then you want to take away laptops. Maybe this isn’t all your doings but your not doing anything to stand up for us. At least in the past there were committees or work groups formed to at least seek input. Not anymore.

You have captains for a reason. Tell them you want their district to work “x” amount of evening shifts a month and let them figure out where and when.

Chief you may not know it but your being used as a scapegoat. What’s going on and about to go on will fail miserably. You keep saying no one will leave. Fact is we are highly u set paid but we’re ok because we get a flexible schedule and a family life. You want me to work permanent nights and weekends I’ll just go to another agency where I at least get every other weekend off and higher pay.

Think about recruiting Chief. How can you sell this job to someone, telling them 39k a year to come work permanent nights and every single weekend. You can’t. The people we do get will be those that can not get hired anywhere else.

When the place crumbles and people leave and we can’t hire what will happen? The directors out will be”the chief created this mess” and then you’ll be gone and blamed and who ever is left will have to pick up the pieces.

Chief we know this isn’t all you. We know our director left the health department in shambles. We know he destroyed licensing and now Damon is taking the blame for his mess he created.

Chief it’s time to stand up. Go have a sit down with your buddy the secretary and let them run your bureau the way it should be. Be the Chief we need.

I don’t think this got through to him as he was riding with tampa last night to make sure they actually work. They have no trust in any of us

I think the Chief is aware of his shortcomings, lack of leadership experience, etc. I also don't think he cares what anyone thinks. Additionally, much of your post is factually incorrect, reeks of opinion by someone not getting their way, and looks to be written by a 5th grader. Next time please proof and edit YOUR post. That was pretty embarrassing and difficult to take seriously.

I think it’s quite factual and exactly what many of us are feeling. As for grammar it’s Leoaffairs who cares about proper grammar

    Correction

The part about a food truck substitution for a HR license on a quota is just not true anymore. If the quota doesn't have a HR license, they can't have on premises consumption of alcohol. Read the order. Simple really. No HR license means your sale are to go/package. Please explain it to your LT

You know nothing. There have been various cases throughout the state when the agent issued the EO for no HR license an email was produced from the deputy secretary to the licensee saying he was ok to operate and to have the agent contact him should there be an issue. Magically once reported on the spreadsheet those offices were told not to revisit the location.

Sadly you are mistaken. You are referring to an incident that happened prior to the amended order. True then but not true now.

We have the same info. No more food trucks instead of licenses. It would be nice to have a recap sheet with talking points so we can be consistent around the state. Licensees talk on social media groups. We should too. This isn't us vs. them. It's us vs. a pandemic!
