Ok this gets interesting. Changing Broward to Fort Lauderdale County.
Not as easy as one may think.
Major William Lauderdale was a soldier who fought against the Seminole in the early 1800s. He was from Tennessee and a “ planter” and slave owner. He fought against the Seminoles and their leader Osceola, who was in fact born Billy Powell to an Indian mother and Scottish father. Originally the Seminoles were Creek Indians who were known to keep slaves. After the Creek / Seminoles
Fled to South Florida Billy/ Osceola took two wives one of which was African American. So by changing the name to Ft Lauderdale County you would get someone whose family were slave holders and aided in the elimination of native Americans led by someone of mixed blood married to an African American.
Maybe to play it safe we can call it Pelican County...., until some environmental folks challenge it for some obscure reason.

BLM wants the name to be Farrakhan County or Malcolm X County. Totally serious.
