When more than 100 protestors surround deputies' cars...
When two of our deputies' cars were surrounded by more 100 people each, on US Hw 301 yesterday, their lives were in grave danger.
What would you do if you were one of these deputies?
What would a leader say to these deputies about defending themselves?
What would a leader say to these deputies about getting the hell out of there?
Sheriff Chad Chronister gave the deputies the order, "STAND DOWN!" And, stand down the deputies did.
We wont get into what Sheriff Chronister said when these same people surrounded plain clothes deputies who were on foot, after finding out they were deputies...

This is a valuable forum. Deputies get an honest means to voice their concerns. In this case, the poster is lying. I was one of the SCU deputies on the bus. Yes, we were surrounded. But the crowd was civil. As for "lives in danger" comment, this is where the credibility of the board gets compromised. If he or she was there, they would have known there were over 135 deputies in the general 3 block area. Not including Pasco County SWAT, FHP, and who knows how many other deputies were on scene, but not on the actual call. Log onto your MDT and feel free to run the status and you can count for yourself. And if your scared, maybe this job is not for you. Be safe guys and gals. Watch your six.

I too was there. The deputies cars were surrounded. The plain clothes deputies were surrounded. Just because no one got hurt THIS time doesn't mean this wasn't a dangerous, and/or life threatening, situation. The command to stand down given when the deputies were surrounded is the most foolish decision I have ever seen made by ANY law enforcement officer, rookie or Sheriff.
I can not believe that is even up for discussion! So far nationwide, at 7 LEOs have been killed by "protestors" in the past week. "Oh, but we are the BY GOD Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office."
Please tell me Chronister hasn't convinced you standing down in these situations is appropriate. If so, for your own safety, you need to find another line of work.

Well, now you done did it. Now all the command staff has to do is see which street crimes deputies were "on the bus." Now, you are ALL going back to patrol to make sure the street crimes deputy who posts on leoaffairs, is dealt with accordingly.
But seriously, are you really saying that just because hundreds of cops were "in the general 3 block area," that not one of the hundreds of protestors surrounding the deputies in their squad cars, and on foot, could've cause death or serious bodily injury to a deputy? Bruh........You're making SCU look REALLY REALY bad!
And when the previous poster mentioned the 7 cops killed from protestors in the past week (I think the total is higher), this does not include the number of cops who sustained serious bodily injury, but are still alive.

That was BS how out numbered we were. If the HCSO wants to let them block traffic, surround us, and put us in danger, then next time, lets just all go home. Let the brass handle the crowds. It was dangerous plain and simple. Im not seeing where 135 deputies were logged on. Where was SIRT? Why was SCU shoved in the middle? In the middle? Typical. Skeleton crew response.

it's obvious for the "stand down" order, Chad is waiting for a deputy to be killed by protestors so that CHAD can play the "victim."
FUCCK YOU CHAD!!!!!!!!!!!

If this ever happens again, here's what you do. If you are inside your patrol car, and a buttload of protestors surround your car, grab your p.a. mic, tell them "move or you will be run over," turn your sirens on, put your foot on the break, put the car in drive, let your foot off the break, grab the steering wheel, don't stop for anything.
If they wanna stand in front of your vehicle, they have been warned that they will get run over. If anyone jumps on your car, slowly increase speed by gradually pressing on the acceleration pedal.
Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.
Then sue the fukc out of Chronister!
