    FDLE Opening

I’m interested in the job announcement on Peoples First for the special agent position in protective operations. Can anyone give me insight into pay/ OT, shift schedules, requirements on how far away from the office you can live, etc. If anyone has worked the gig or you’re knowledgeable about that position, please give me an objective outlook into this position.

Seems some of you are displeased with FDLE leadership, but name any LE organization that doesn’t have its issues. I’m not looking for the bad, just an overall picture of the assignment.

The pay is going to be the minimum amount listed in the opening. There is more OT then you can shake a stick at currently but it should drop off some as they fill positions. The schedule is 12 hour shifts Panama schedule. You must live 50 miles from the mansion. There is plenty of travel involved if you like that sort of thing. Just know it’s not a traditional law enforcement job, you won’t be arresting anyone. It’s strictly protecting and driving the gov and his family but you’ll get to see and do things most people don’t.

It depends. If you have investigative experience you can convince a SAC to take you. If you don’t have investigative experience it can be tough. If your goal is to be a special agent in a investigative squad, don’t apply to work protection. If you only have patrol time and you want to work in a ROC, stay at your agency and become a Detective for a few years and apply for a regular agent position.

Take the Protective operations job if you are a good manipulator and ass kisser!! That's how FDLE's Commissioner got his job, by working PO and ingratiating beyond any level that a LE Professional should with a Governor. It's actually the BEST way to move up.. .just ask the current FDLE Commish!

If you like being a babysitter and not doing real law enforcement, this is the job for you! Long, boring days with zero control of your day and what you are doing. Sit and not be able to eat, go the bathroom, etc., all while your protectee is smoozing with ****y politicians and ass-kissing people. If you're looking to come to FDLE, you probably have problems at the Agency you are with though so maybe this sounds good. The thing is, even FDLE knows that if someone is leaving another Agency for them they are questioning why the hell the person is leaving!!

but you’ll get to see and do things most people don’t.

Like how to properly wash cars and keeping track of luggage.

Then again, the Guv might just take a liking to you and appoint you to a management role.

You know shit must be really bad for a person if/when they have a good LEO job ANYWHERE else and consider FDLE.

But you know, those in turmoil have to go somewhere. And quite frankly, this is why FDLE is what it is.. people in turmoil that came to FDLE and wanted to promote through because they want to be in control (when they shouldn't be).

Come on in (to FDLE), the water is cold (and you are guaranteed shrinkage).
