And what makes someone a “best Sgt”? What, he gets your payroll in on time? Signs overtime slips with amazing precision? Reviews Aforms and OIRs in a single bound?
The work out there is done by officers and detectives and most sergeants forgot a long time ago how to do half the shit a silver badge does on the regular. Most sergeants are stuck at the 05 because they have to do this or that desk jockey shit office bayitch crap, even the ones who’d rather be driving around or spending time with their squad.
Wanna know what makes a “best Sgt”? Let the people in your squad do their damn jobs without being a whiny little micromanaging bayotch or reinventing the wheel. Get outta the way. Now you just became great!
Especially since I’ve been hearing with alarming regularity about certain preferred types who are approached by the “Right People” and basically handed the test answers because “we want you to get promoted”, meaning that all this crap about studying is another load of crap. You’ve earned nothing. This is great job and a great department. But if it ever gets out that people are just “given” the answers to the test questions because they are preferred over others, it would confirm what many have believed for so many years: that the in-crowd always gets a shortcut. They don’t have to “study”, they don’t have to get “bodies”, they don’t need to work on the same level with the same effort as the rest of us nobodies.
So if there is such rampant favoritism in the hiring and training/FTO level, why wouldn’t it follow that there is also such thing as certain people, maybe just a handful, that are guaranteed a shot at promotion because of their political or family hookups? It wouldn’t shock me in the least.
Didn’t an officer get removed from the list a few years ago when it was determined she cheated or was helped in some way by a source on the inside?
